Personally I really hope we can keep Dominguez. I'd hate to see us start over almost from scratch again next year. Bucky has a system and I think that unless Bucky tweaks that system to account for constant turnover, there's always going to be a learning curve to start the year - even if we upgrade in talent.
I kinda think roster continuity is somehow overvalued and undervalued at the same time.
It's overvalued in the sense that you don't really need your best players to have much continuity. Bucky has talked a lot about how one of the big goals of his system is that it's simple for you, it's complex for the opponent. There will be some learning curve because of the variety of defense's we run, but I don't think it's absolutely massive or that it's in completely different tier from what other schools are doing.
At the same time, it's undervalued in that you need SOME players in that locker room that know what the coaches are expecting of the players, even if they aren't your best players. You need some guys that have been through it before and can help bring the newer guys along. So when this all shakes out you hope you have some of those, even if they're not top-of-the-lineup guys.
A third level of this is that we also at least have continuity in the coaching staff from last year to next year. That's going to make a huge difference at the beginning of the season also. One of the more impressive things from last season was how the coaching staff came together when only one of those guys had ever coached with Bucky before. That's pretty unusual when you look around at other high major tournament teams.
