1. A starting level big. I don't think we have to get a stretch 5 but we need one who is a force on the glass and a high level athlete that can get up and down the floor.

I agree with this - I'd much rather have a DeAndre Jordan/Robert Williams type than a stretch 5.

I think it would not only help us with the obvious defense and rebounding, but help diversify our attack on offense. Rim pressure is ultimately what drives an effective 3 point attack. If you aren't putting pressure on the rim, defenses will stay home on their assignments and not rotate. An athletic dive man will suck in the defense and give us those opportunities.

If we're looking for a stretch big, I'd rather see it as a 4 man who can be an undersized 5 man as a backup and/or to mix up our look depending on certain matchups.

He's probably a take just based on potential, IMO

That's a fair assessment!

Truth is I have zero idea. His production is concerning however he's 6'6" with a 6'9" reach. He would be a HIGHLY versatile player.

On paper, seems like he would be a good pick up.

I'm cool with a stretch 5 Jokic lite type player, because I think we will be able to put pressure on the rim via cutters and divers.

I just worry about a guy like that being a liability on defense - we really need a solid rim protector and it seems like you're more likely to get that from a rim running, athletic 5.

But if we can get a guy who can play inside on D and outside on O that's cool, I just am not sure how many guys like that are out there in college ball.

Seems more likely that we can get the stretch from the 4 position with guys in that 6'6 to 6'8 mold just because there's a lot more availability of that type of talent.

Texas A&M Men's Basketball Transfer Portal Update Fresh Movement on Names A&M Fans Were Watching (March 31)

Still a week out from the official portal window opening on April 7, but the last couple days have seen some real movement that has Aggie fans lighting up X. No current A&M players have announced portal entry, and the program remains rock-solid after the McMillan extension. But a few of the exact names the fanbase was monitoring have now officially hit the portal.

Money Williams (Montana)

Officially entered the transfer portal (confirmed 3/30 with reports still rolling in today). This one has A&M fans buzzing loud because he absolutely torched the Aggies at Reed Arena this season 22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5-of-6 from three. 6'4 guard who averaged 20.6 PPG in the Big Sky. No concrete A&M pursuit leaked yet, but he's the hottest name connected to the program right now.

Drew Fielder (Boise State)

Also entered the portal in the last day or so. 6'11 big who led Boise State in scoring (14.7 PPG) and rebounding (5.7 RPG). Size and production like this is exactly what McMillan has been saying the Aggies need after being one of the smallest teams in the SEC. Early fan chatter is already wondering if he'd fit the length/rim-protection priority.

Isiah Harwell (Houston)

The 5-star talent out of Houston has entered the portal as well. Big name with high-upside potential. No specific A&M links popping publicly yet, but he's another fresh name that fits the profile of guys the program could target once things open up.

RJ Johnson

No relevant updates or rumors on X tying him to the portal or to Texas A&M basketball at this point.

Overall the vibe is still "wait-and-see" with quiet confidence. The McMillan extension has the program in great shape, Mgbako and the core are locked in, and the size/length hunt is the clear focus. These three new portal entries (Money Williams, Drew Fielder, Isiah Harwell) are the first real names A&M fans have circled in the last 48 hours. Deeper intel and actual offers will start flying once April 7 hits.

Oh I definitely agree! That's why I emphasized that it doesn't have to be a stretch 5. I like the Chol Machot kid from Charleston. Look him up.

How do we feel about 2 6'4" guards? I like both players, but with the potential of bringing Pop, Hill, and Holloway back we still run into the same question. How do we guard the big wings in our conference? Granted how I don't know anything about the length of Johnson and Williams, but it's still a question to be asked. However, if Pop and Holloway are both gone that's a moot point.

I think 6'4" is easily workable size for college guards, if they have the right mentality.

You have guys in the NBA like Josh Hart and Derrick White that are 6'4" and can easily guard 1-3 and even a 4 in the right matchup/on switches. They are definitely outliers, though.

Definitely think it's because their wingspan is ++. That's why I'm curious has to what everyone's length is in the portal. Wish there was a source that gave wingspans and standing reaches.

He is the MVP layup line guy. His job at halftime was to retrieve balls and pass them out to the actual players.

Like him too. If we wanted to pick nits 33% from 3 isn't great, but makes up for it at the line and with defensive numbers.

As far as the mentions of Money Williams. I wonder if he's a fit? Is he the kind of player that wants to expend energy pressing because it's bound to impact his scoring numbers .

RJ Johnson 6'4" sophomore guard from Kennesaw state. Played high school ball at Grissom high in Huntsville Alabama.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5176186/rj-johnson

Interesting case. 6'4", 225. 42% from 3. Was the #1 player out of Alabama in his class. Signed with Alabama, then requested a release from his letter of intent. Wound up at Kennesaw State.
He didn't end up there haphazardly, he followed Antoine Pettway who was his lead recruiter at Bama before getting the Kennesaw St gig

That was a classic Todd Golden exchange. He started in on a fan that was heckling him and threw out an f-bomb that everybody heard. I called him classless several times and he whipped around toward me and said, "F*** you, mother****er"….the exact response I expected. I thought it was funny. I continued to chant "classless" a few times and that was it.

It was a short exchange, but on-point for Golden.

One of my favorite interactions with a coach was Porter Mosier this year. He was really working the refs hard and whining. Then the refs called a ticky-tack call on A&M and I said "Mosier, your miserable whining finally paid off". He turned around, smiled, and winked at me. It's all in good fun. Most coaches are that way…but Golden is a different creature. He must have grown up getting bullied in the streets. He definitely has a chip on his shoulder.
