It's real easy to say what you "would have" done where other people's livelihoods are concerned. Something tells me MaK wouldn't embrace the unemployment line for her family as quickly as she is suggesting

Nieve take on that dude's part. 4d chess was just played. Result: every player stays and a few ask for extra year to come back. The players ask for and get a beloved coach. I'm not sure what else to take from that statement other than when him and Del Conte gets together he liked to be the catcher.
