Can someone please explain the "A Standard" thing to someone not familiar with T&F rules? I just watched the replay of Natosha Rogers' run and I don't get how she can finish second, but not make the London team while people she beat still go.

Ok, never mind. I guess it would help if I read the whole thread first. Still one hell of a run by Natosha!

Best thing from Natosha's run as far as A&M is concerned is it should be able to recruit distance runners to come to A&M on the womens side at least.

Brian Clay with a horror day, he had to push it to hit the London standards, but a foul out and a DQ?!?!

Wow!

Eaton-Hardee-Harton-Horn going into the pole vault.

I'm not really too informed on this stuff, what is the percentage chance that Ryan makes the team?
HCLi

Harlan has almost no chance because he has to hit the A standard of 8200 points. He's about 1700 points off with two events to go. If you combine his personal bests in the last two, he'd be off by around 300 points

Any chance they could give Rodgers another chance to make the A time on some type of appeal because of fall?

If the point is to get your best athletes to the Olympics I think she just proved she deserves it.

Jessica Beard did not look good in the 400. She'll be in lane 1 or 8 for the final.

Actually the requirement to have an A cut allows those already with the time to "train through" the Trials. They can time their training to peak in London. If an athlete earns their A cut early - they just have to be top 3 to go to the Olympics. This strategy is exactly in line with the idea of getting the best athletes to London.

They didn't even have to finish in the top 3 last night, only 3 girls (not counting Flanagan) came in with the A standard. If at any point it appeared a fourth was going to push 31:45 or whatever the A mark is, you would have likely seen an entirely different race. Last night is the very reason why USA Track sets the trials as the deadline for reaching the A standard.

I hate that Natosha fell, and I hate that she panicked a bit and spent a lot of energy so quickly, but I don't think there was any grounds for an appeal. She lost her footing, and fell.

2nd place at our national championship is still something to be very proud of, and Natosha should have another two opportunities, at least, to qualify for the Olympic Games.

Must be fustrating for Tarmoh. But I think she'll be going to London-She should be at least on the relays (how far down do they go relays? 5,6?)

Tarmoh is going to London. If she runs the 100 and the relay or just the relay is yet to be determined. So they have till the deadline for entry for the 100m to decide who is the third person. I would guess they will decide before that. She also is trying for the 200M same as Felix.

Looks like Taemoh edged out but her odds are about 1-10 to get it. maturity and declining vs youth getting better.
Pahdz

That really is close, but let's be honest, if Felix learns to clean up here start, she's the faster runner. She absolutely sucked up the field after a horrible start.
TXAggie2011

That wasn't an unusual start by Felix, so I don't have any pity for her. I'm sure she'll do great in the 200 if she runs like she did last night, though.

I'm not feeling pity for her, just saying give her another month to work on those starts, and she probably gives us the best chance for another medal outside of Jeter (no slight to Jeneba though, she should have secured a 4x100 spot with that race though, could be a good first leg).

USATF just announced a tie-breaking procedure for the rest of the trials. I chuckled at the coin flip procedure.

quote:
If either athlete declines his or her position on the National Team/Olympic Team, that athlete will be named the alternate and the other athlete will assume the final available position.

If neither athlete declines their position, they will be given the option to determine the tie-breaker via coin toss or by run-off.

If both athletes choose the same option, that option will be utilized as the tie-breaker.

If the athletes disagree on the tie-breaker, the tie will be broken by a run-off.

If both athletes refuse to declare a preference regarding the method between a run off and coin toss in regards to how the tie is broken, the tie will be broken by coin toss.

Thanks, I'm just trying to work through Tarmoh-Feliz scenarios in my head.

Isnt Felix supposed to be favored to win in the 200?

From the way their coach was talking in that interview I kind of got the impression that if Felix made it in the 200 and Tarmoh didn'tthen Felix would drop the 100 and both of them would go and would only have to focus on one race.
Pahdz
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes but I think Tarmoh is also running the 200m as well.

Why do you think Felix would just give up a spot without a fight? She's going for a double.
clw04
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Problem is Felix isn't good enough to double. Her coach does this.

There's only two things that the 100 in London can do for Felix. It can either warm her up or wear her out for the 200m.
