her agent said last night she was about to concede. I know it sucks, but she has to run that race. Anything can happen.

And I don't blame Tarmoh at all for her thoughts. It must be brutal. Unfortunately, with all these articles and as big is this is now, it's going to look like her pouting and quitting or wanting to quit to people who don't understand.

Felix should give her the spot since Felix has a great chance at the 200m and her slow start will kill her in the 100m.

Nike reps both, and Felix is a much bigger name in track.

You know that has something to do with the goings on in the back room.

Nike wants Felix running the 100 and 200.

Kind of harsh though isn't it?

"Hey, you ran the absolute race of your life. But, that's meaningless now, do it again or else you don't go to the Olympics."

No. It's not too harsh. Did she run the race of her life? Probably, but she didn't win. That's all that matters. As with most professional athletes and other careers, there are multiple times that you have to overcome adversity. Quitting or whinning to the reporters isn't going to get it done. If you want to quit, then do it. I can't imagine working my tail off my whole life to get to this point and then giving up.

My thoughts exactly. USATF wants Felix running as well.

From the article:
"This is a Nike and NBC Sports deal," Nelson said. "This is Jeneba against the world. She feels like it's everybody against her."
The coach added that Tarmoh doesn't blame Felix, who also is coached by Bobby Kersee in Los Angeles.
Nelson said the sport often has decided ties by determining whose chest was first.
"We want the same rules followed now as they have in previous years," Nelson added. "Why should rules change now because Allyson Felix is great?"
If not resolved soon the situation could find its way to court.
"It's definitely affected her emotionally," Nelson said of Tarmoh, who has earned a spot on the 400 relay team. "Even if she did have to run today, she won't be worth a damn."

How long do you want to ignore this user?
she has to run...the chest rule? I mean c'mon ladies...would you really feel like you deserved it based on whose chest crossed one one-thousanth of a second faster? Just run it and give it everything you've got...

I understand what you guys are saying, but Tarmoh has to run this race for her integrity alone...

she's backing out officially.

not conceding. She just isn't running tonight.

sounds like her camp is "rightfully" upset with the influence of nike and nbc, as well as the "new rules" by the USATF.

She will now be called everything imaginable and thrown under the bus for this, so she better stick to her guns from here on out. Tough decision.

I think she is making the right decision. Pull out so that NBC and USATF lose money. Felix gets the special treatment because of her name. Not right.

If Jeneba feels she is right, she should definitely continue the fight. Not running does not equate to fear of losing.

So what's her grievance? That she doesn't have time to prepare for the race? Or that she actually beat Felix?

That they made up new rules for a tiebreaker after they said she had won.
Bunk Moreland

she isn't running and she has conceded. I would have loved to be a fly in that room to see what kind of pressure was laid on her.

Too bad. This has been a mess from the start.

What bugs me is that Jeneba's boob seems to be obscured by the line in the only picture I have seen and Felix's looks to be touching it. I would call that clear evidence that Jeneba reached the line ahead of Felix.

I said all along that she had a slim 10% chance to make the team regardless of the way it was determined.

The powers that be wanted Felix!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She needs a new coach ! Do we know if he made the protest of the 100m result ? Somebody did.

No way could she be in a frame of mind or body to redo that race. Felix had everything going for her!

Can't imagine the emotional peaks of a life-long dream being realized only to be yanked away when the official admits he is making an educated guess rather than working on definitive proof.

It has Nike/USATF hands all over it and they certainly wanted to turn it into a money-maker for them tonight more than anything.

I would run, but with that scenario before her and not me, I cannot judge...I can only support her decision.

She should race. The officials determined it was a tye snd the both have the same notice of time to rerace on a neutral site
Aggies don't quit and I hate seeing this current generation doing time and time again. Via email nonetheless, absolutely staggering

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/olympics/2012/writers/tim_layden/06/26/track-field-photo-finish-felix-tarmoh/index.html

The photo finish judge made the determination and then protested himself.

Said that because of the position of Tarmoh's head you can't actually see the most forward part of her torso so he used the same extrapolation technique he does for every other race to make the call.

USATF judge on review said they had to use only the first part of her torso that was visible on photo which caused adjustment of Tarmoh's time and resulted in the dead heat.

Original judge said he would do it the same way every time, call it for Tarmoh, and the extrapolation technique he has used is accepted any other time.

This is not really fair to what both athletes put their bodies through. These athletes have very sophisticated training schedules including building up to and recovering from meets like this. To add an additional race in their recovery time could definitely lead to injury.

Just read some of the articles up already on match races like this. The last two big time hyped races both ended in injuries. The Donavan Bailey-Michael Johnson 150m race ended with Johnson pulling up lame. When Maurice Green was dominating the 100m and Michael Johnson the 400m, they raced a 200m where both pulled up hurt before the finish.

Tarmoh and Felix, just did 6 races in terrible weather and the chance to blow either one of their Olympics is just too high. The fact that they are seemingly being forced to do this for everyone elses benefit and at their expense is just ridiculous.

Their coach has been lobbying for a week to push a possible runoff as far back as he can. USATF originally said it absolutely had to be by yesterday, which they already caved on, likely due to pressure from NBC and Nike.

USA Olympic deadline is 7/2 to have all athletes declared, however the official deadline the Olympic organizers will take is 7/7. We may still see something by then. The US already went past their first unmovable deadline of Sunday.

Everybody read that Sports Illustrated article mentioned above.

Tom Jennings the chief photofinisher said " if I went back and read that photo 100 times I would call it the same way EVERY time.".

Tarmoh would win.

After reading that si article it does sound like she should have won. Good point about the affects on there bodies but if they push back the race it will be to close to the olympic race

Now I'm infuriated.

I'm disappointed in tarboh. She didn't earn third outright, she earned a tie for third according to the official ruling. To have been awarded that race outright would have been an injustice to Felix. If she is truly the right person to be heading to London for the 100m she shouldn't be afraid of settling it on the track. She comes off like a whiner and a coward.

The deadline was for a decision from the athletes on how they would break the tie. And Benita Fitzgerald (sport performance at USATF) said 4 or 5 days ago it was hardly an unmovable timeline.

The only reason Tarboh got third is because the USATF couldn't stand Felix not getting onto the team, which is why they had another judge look at it despite a perfectly rational reasoning by the other judge.

Cliffs Notes for those who don't want to read the whole article (although I suggest it as its really enlightening into the whole process):

-The first part of Felix's torso to cross the line is clearly visible in the photo.

-The first part of Tarmoh's torso to cross the line is obstructed by her head in the photo.

-Photo judge initially ruled the win for Tarmoh extrapolating where the first part of her torso would be, using a technique that has been fine for thousands of previous races. Then challenged himself for the integrity of the sport as it determined Olympic spots.

-USATF judge said they had to use only the first visible part of Tarmoh's torso to cross the line, which adjusted her time backwards .001s and resulted in dead heat.

as much as I would have liked to see Tarmoh get the spot (mind you she's still going to London), if Felix cleans up her start (highly likely) she gives the US the best chance for a podium (in addition to Jeter).

Natosha Rogers trials performance is the 34th best performance of the year through July 1, and she is the 30th best performer according to the IAAF site. Pretty darn good since her first race at 10k was May 10.

Tarmoh on Sportscenter now. Pure class with her response. She felt like she got robbed, and explained her position.

I doubt her and Felix are gonna be "like sisters" anymore as their coach put it.
