Phelps was close, but not Le Clos enough.... (sorry, couldn't help myself.)

A heck of a race, and Phelps seemed very gracious after. Not something I would've expected from him before, nice to see.

That Chinese girl looked good, but a little less of a ridiculous performance in that one. That was a fantastic turn going into the free.

Lochte got the US a huge lead to start of the 4x200

That mens 4x200 was a massive win, just a supreme display of mid distance freestyle.

Surprised they didn't push for that WR, could've had it if they wanted it, I think.

Lochte didn't really earn a huge lead. Everyone else was just slow. Lochte's time was solid. But I think he now knows just how ridiculously difficult it is to be the best, race after race with this much pressure.

It makes Phelps in 2008 (and 2004) even more ridiculous.

MP had the best relay split other than Agnel of France.

Can we talk about the scandal that is badminton?

The swimming scandal is the triple dolphin kick by the gold medal winner:

Pretty amazing.

It is something that I still watch the Olympics despite this nonsense. Guess I can't help rooting for the Americans, even though pretty much all Olympic athletes are hard to relate to.

The problem with the Olympics is that the IOC is too polite to call out clear cheating/bad sportsmanship.

The Iranians get away with refusing to compete with the Israelis because the IOC has no balls.

Now, no one will do a damn thing about this, either.

Douglass did great and then Weiber just owned it. one more to go, but this thing is done. Must feel bittersweet for Weiber, but she showed up today and looked outstanding.

And Raisman nails it.

USA gets team gold!

Just now seeing this on the west coast. You know, of all of the athletes in the Olympics (winter and summer) I tend to find the gymnasts and the figure skaters to be the hardest to relate to.

But it's hard not to like this team. Not a bunch of dour expressions like you get from the Eastern European countries. And a true face of this country's diversity. A black girl, a girl whose parents are black/Japanese and philipina/puerto rican, a girl of lebanese descent, Raisman is jewish, the coaches are Romanian and Chinese...that's about the most American thing I can imagine. Completely unforced diversity.

Reports coming out now that the 4 badminton pairs that were judged to have lost on purpose will be kicked out of the competition.

I understand that it's not a sportsmanlike thing to do but is it really in the rules that you have to try and win? Isn't this like teams losing on purpose to get a different seed in basketball tournaments and/or baseball teams that have already qualified for the playoffs sitting starters and letting other teams have easier victories? I don't know that I would have booted them out of the tournament unless it explicitly states that this is against the rules

I think it was to maximize their medal possibilities. Have one team hopefully win the first bracket and have your other team win the loser bracket. Then you get two China teams on the podium with gold and silver no matter what.

Or so that's what I heard on the radio this morning. Not cheating, but no in the spirit of the game. Could be wrong; what do I know?

Well, it does go against the Olympic oath...taking a blatant dive is not the "true spirit of sportsmanship and glory of the sport". Granted, there are other examples of poor sportsmanship that get ignored, but I think what they did was over the line.

Need to find video of this match, would be funny to watch.

^^

It's not cheating at all...as someone else said you could say it violates the Olympic oath, but it certainly isn't against any rules to do badly on purpose. There are plenty of other examples (hell we may get some in other Olympic sports this year) where it happens

Yeah she did. That was impressive.

This has been the best night of swimming for Team USA all week. Glad to see them kick it up a notch.

Nice 5th for Cammile. I had hoped she had another gear for finals - but she had no more. She needs a faster front half and at this level of competition can't afford to let the field come back to her on the 2nd half.

But I am so pleased with the Aggie swims in London. I hope Breeja and Cammile keep at it post graduation and represent us in Rio.

Anyone else here irritated by Hope Solo and her self indulgent twitter feud?

One more thing - Soni's WR was awesome. And Nathan Adrian has to have pulled off one of the biggest upsets so far.

Thanks. I, too, was hoping that she was just conserving energy in yesterday's swim. I am amazed at our Olympic athletes and their abilities, and really am proud of the AGGIES.

I don't like it, she needs to cut that crap out, and I don't like some of Brandi Chastain's commentary that put Solo into a mood.

In fairness to Cammile, she did drop time on each swim including half a second from semis to finals. Pretty sure that's the second-fastest swim of her life as well. She was ranked lower than fifth both in the world rankings coming into the meet and at each stage of the rounds until her final placing. Making the final was no stone cold lock. She dropped time and jumped two swimmers from semis to finals. I think she stepped up and did a great job. Lots more to come from both her and Breeja in the years to come.

LOB - Cammile accomplished a lot and I am super impressed and proud of her. 5th at the Olympics is astounding. She has tremendous discipline and confidence in her pacing. I have complete confidence that Steve, if they choose to, can continue her development into a medal winner.

Of course the Ags did us proud! But how about Nathan Adrian walking away with a gold in the 100 free? Phenomenal effort by him! The 4X200 free women also deserve a ton of credit. And don't forget about the only Armstrong biker to deliver a win when we actually care of cycling: at the Olympics.
