I'm as big a fan of Federer as you'll find, but I'm happy for Andy. He's absolutely running Fed off the court, and looks outstanding. he looked incredible the other day vs Djoker too.

Same here Bunk. And I'm thinking that win will do wonders for the real Wimbledons in Murray's future. And good for Del Potro too to get the bronze. He's a great guy and wonderful for the game- just had some bad luck with injuries. Hopefully he continues to climb back up to that top 4 and 5.

Is that far fetched to think that the Men's Track team will be shut out of the 100, 200, and 400 individual and relay medals (of any kind)? If so, the gap between China and us will be too wide for all our team sports to close at the end.

Every morning we'd wake up and China would be ahead. But by the afternoon, dominance in the pool put us just over the top. But the pool is dry now, folks, the pool is dry.

That race was awesome. Too bad NBC chose to broadcast beach volleyball instead of the 100m. I mean, who cares about the race for the world's fastest man?

you'll be able to see it in HD on NBC...at 10:15ish, after 100 commercials about crappy new NBC sitcoms and bull**** made up drama via Bob Costas. Oh, and after everyone has heard about the results via espn.com, radio, twitter, facebook, etc.

The webcast was pretty crappy too. Fortunately, I was able to catch the portion where Bolt started to clearly pull away from the pack. Amazing!

US now guaranteed at least 1 medal in women's beach volleyball with 2 teams in the semis.

With asafa powell pulling up lame, it helps the usa's 4x100 chances...just get the stick around for a change.

Not getting a finalist in the 400 is an embarassment.

Is usa track and field dying? Its kinda a shame, this is shaping up to be one of the most disappointing track performances for the americans.

I wonder if a lot of the athletes that used to get into it aren't just playing football instead.

A lot of the same skills/strengths that apply in T/F have application in football. But it's hard to do both at an elite level. And given a choice, your best athletes are going to play football.

Is Bolt was a Diver or a Ping Pong master, I would root for him. But right now, he's might as well be Chinese.

No. Just a crappy weekend for our 400m runners.

Its been a fantastic start for the women sprinters. Its already arguably the best showing since Barcelona (Gold in 100 and 200), and we still have the 200m to go in London.

Medaled in men's LJ and shot. Not the '90s, but we didn't medal in the LJ in Beijing and Sydney. That was an enormous breakthrough by Galen Rupp for American distance running and its fantastic to see two Americans in the 1500m final.

Still have some Gold and lots of other medal opportunities.

Fair enough.

If Merritt didn't get hurt in Monaco and had to pull up in London, we might not be as disappointed? I don't know. I think our failure may highlight the dilemma for some collegiate runners. Tony McQuay suffered at Daegu, too. Some runners can get back up for the "second season", so to speak, but after being pushed hard to peak in June, perhaps McQuay's body has a difficult time getting back up in August.

What's up with Simpson nearly missing the 1500's qualifier? At the bar with no sound.

She got herself caught up in a stupidly slow race.

I think if he were truly a threat to finish on the podium, he wouldn't be allowed to run against able-bodied athletes. He has world-class speed, but he's realistically not a medal contender. It's a unique situation and I think it's actually nice of the powers-that-be to allow him to compete against the best while he's in his athletic prime.

I dunno if the blades give him an overall advantage. It's not like he's a marathoner in a racing wheelchair vs an able-bodied marathoner, where the mechanical advantage is obvious.

major props to the dude (Pistorius). He's handled himself well thru this & he's got respect of millions around the world.
