That 100 free was great, been awhile seeing us win a freestyle sprint in men's swimming. Wonder if we'll be competitive in the 50.

The medley relay team looks strong....gold medal winners in back and free, bronze in breaststroke, and Phelps in fly. I guess Lochte doesn't even swim in that final. We tend to dominate that event like no other, but looks like we can definitely circle gold this year barring a DQ.

I know it's only the prelims, but looking pretty good considering both Americans were in the group of 6 men that went sub-22. You never know with the 50 though, it's all about the start.

Womens 200 breast finals - Soni break the WR again?

Mens 200 back finals - Lochte and Clary look super strong.

Womens 200 back semis - Missy and Beisel look dominant so far

Mens 200 IM finals - the "big one" between Phelps and Lochte. I'm not convinced Phelps has the finishing power to win, but Lochte will have 200 back 29 mins earlier.

Womens 100 free finals - looks like Kromowidjojo is the clear front runner. Another double for Missy with ~25 mins of rest. I don't think Hardy can medal.

Mens 100 fly - Phelps will be tired after the IM. He gets ~30 mins of rest. Seven guys were sub-52 in prelims so Phelps can't mess around.

Synchro was where we had the best odds of medaling and they did very well. The really tough stuff is coming up.

Womens 200 breast finals - Soni break the WR again?... Doubt she sets another WR, but would be very surprised if she doesn't take gold.

no kidding. I'm so tired of his "my time" attitude, ego, etc. I'll happily enjoy the fact that he is winning medals for the US, but I'm happy that the gold is won by a US swimmer other than him.

man, Lochte is going to go all Craig James on some ladies of the night in London tonight.

May want to replace those diamonds in that grill with some silver.

That said, he's an incredible athlete.

And Phelps is smoking hot on 100 fly. 50.86 in semis? One hell of a swim not long after that 200 IM.

Terrific day indeed. I echo a lot of the sentiment about Lochte and Phelps. Phelps is simply the Jordan/Tiger of swimming. Enjoy it while you can. It's almost over.

Every day the Olympics continues, the more ridiculous Phelps accomplishments in 2004 and 2008 become. Dominance via near perfection in race after race.

So many past gold medalists and WR holders have swum badly or not in contention this year.

Kitajima, Steffen, Magnussen, Sjostrom, Muffatt, Cielo, Roberts, Liu, Manadou, etc.

I am not sure where they rank in terms overall gold medals for a school but they are no better than third when it comes to gold medal totals.

USC and Stanford are definitely ahead of them with well over 100 gold medals apiece.

The Situation80 - Yes Cielo is top seed in the 50. But he is also the WR holder in the 100. And he finished 6th.

Soni and Phelps are so far the only defending gold medal winners to win again. I don't think any of the current WR holders have won.

One of phelps' sisisters is an attention seeking ho..way too excited.

Boy, would swimmers and runners love this if they had this rule in their sport.

What's more apalling-the rule or the fact Great Britain admitted it had an athlete who's poor in speaking the national language?

Wouldn't call it over. I thought we would pull ahead/away in the 2nd week of Beijing as well because of track...and it never happened. Track was good for 7 golds, which is nice, but it's less than our swimming advantage.
