Stars sign Gonchar to 2-year $10M contract. More movement within our D-core to come?

So Eakins and Vigneault are both off the table. That leaves Lindy Ruff who I believe would be a good hire. He's managed to keep Buffalo competitive throughout years of turmoil and a terrible owner situation. It would be nice to see what he can do with better resources.

AV was my first choice. I definitely do not want Ruff or Torts. Our options seem to be dwindling.

Don't forget that Dave Tippett is still on the table. He just can't talk to anyone until his contract with Phoenix is done. He did a hell of a job before Nieuwendyk fired him to bring in his own guy. Either way, I know Jim Nill has a reputation of being a brilliant hockey mind so I know he'll make the right decision. I just hope he makes the decision before its too late.

Sounds like Lindy Ruff will end up being the coach. I know he's had some good years and bad ones so honestly I don't know how I feel about this hire.

We'll see how it plays out but initially, I like this pick better than many of our recent draft picks.

Holy crap I love this pick! I was bummed when Lindholm and Ristolainen were drafted, but when the big Russian fell to us I was giddy. We HAD to take him. We are definitely going to see him with the big club next season! Pumped!

Dickinson? Never heard of him, but I trust Jim Nill.

And **** you TSN/NBCSN for skipping the Stars for not one, but TWO interviews! Anyone who thinks the NHL/media doesn't hate the Stars has their head in the sand.

Stars just acquired Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverly, and Ryan Button from Boston in exchange for Loui Eriksson, Joe Morrow, Reilly Smith, and Matt Fraser.

Acquired our number one center for the future (and a solid 2C or 3C in Peverley); two birds with one stone. Losing Loui will be tough but I really like this trade. Seguin has potential and moving Benn back to wing where he belongs is more than ideal.

Apparently a deal is in the works to acquire Shawn Horcoff from Edmonton.

Terrible trade.

It's well-known Seguin quit on the Bruins during last year's Stanley Cup playoffs. The Stars are nowhere near a playoff team--how many games before he decides he hates it here too?

The guy is 21. He is an absolute stud and I think will show how good he is. I'm pumped about this trade because a line (potentially) of Seguin, Benn, and Whitney together is downright scary for the opposition.

quidam65, your trolls just keep getting weaker. If the Stars suck so damn much and are constantly threatened with relocation, why don't you just jump on another team's bandwagon?

Guess you didn't hear about Seguin's latest tweet (of course he's already claiming he was hacked).

And the Stars gave up its best player for this?

You don't think one of his dumb@ss buddies picked up his phone and wrote that tweet? You truly, legitimately want me to believe that he's calling himself queer on twitter?

Ok.

Best player? While a very good player, Loui was probably the 4th best player on the team last year behind Lehtonen, Benn, and Ray Whitney. You can also make an argument that Jagr was better too. The truth is Loui's production dropped when Brad Richards left the team and while he's been very solid for us, you can tell he benefited from a premier set-up man. Something that Benn will benefit from if he is put on the same line as Whitney.

We traded a very good player and some good prospects for a potential elite center iceman, something that is a rarity in the NHL, and another good forward. I'll take that.

What I'm waiting for is to see what moves we make with our defense which is something I think needs to be addressed. Dillon was the only defenseman (along with at times, Rome) that I felt actually played good D. The rest are just too small and got pushed around a lot in front of the net. Oleksiak is huge but doesn't have that killer mentality yet. He'll get there but if we don't make any moves for FA's, then he needs to get it quick because I'm thinking he'll find himself on the roster for opening night.

I think we are definitely on the right path to get back in the playoffs and make an impact in the NHL this season. The Stars seem to be aligning (pun intended) for hockey to get more popular in Dallas with the Cowboys still mediocre and the Mavs missing out on Dwight Howard. Can't wait to see this new look team in action!

Actually think the trade will work out well for both teams. Really hope the Stars make a run for Murray - then need more physical defensemen besides Dillon & Robidas. Would agree that Lehtonen and Benn are their best players.

The season can't start soon enough. Just watched some Nichushkin highlights. I hope he produces this coming year.

He'll have a learning curve to overcome but I think if he gets on a line with a pure passer (like whitney) I think he will do great. My only concern so far with him is his selfishness with the puck. All videos I've seen of him show that he tries to do everything himself rather than pass it to open teammates. Hopefully Ruff will help him keep his head on a swivel rather than fall prey to tunnel vision.

Having said that, this is the most excited I've been in a long time for the season to start. I'm getting my opening night tickets as soon as they go on sale!

I'm not a Stars fan, but you guys should be really happy with your offseason moves. The Stars still have a ways to go to before they contend in a stacked Western Conference, but you guys are definitely on the right track. Nichushkin was an absolute steal in the draft. He is projected as a poor man's Ilya Kovalchuk and if he is two thirds the takent that Kovi is/was that's still pretty damn good. Seguin oozes talent and could become a franchise prayer for the next decade. Count me among those who think that getting away from the pressure of Boston and moving to his natural position at center will work wonders for him.
