Best player? While a very good player, Loui was probably the 4th best player on the team last year behind Lehtonen, Benn, and Ray Whitney. You can also make an argument that Jagr was better too. The truth is Loui's production dropped when Brad Richards left the team and while he's been very solid for us, you can tell he benefited from a premier set-up man. Something that Benn will benefit from if he is put on the same line as Whitney.
We traded a very good player and some good prospects for a potential elite center iceman, something that is a rarity in the NHL, and another good forward. I'll take that.
What I'm waiting for is to see what moves we make with our defense which is something I think needs to be addressed. Dillon was the only defenseman (along with at times, Rome) that I felt actually played good D. The rest are just too small and got pushed around a lot in front of the net. Oleksiak is huge but doesn't have that killer mentality yet. He'll get there but if we don't make any moves for FA's, then he needs to get it quick because I'm thinking he'll find himself on the roster for opening night.
I think we are definitely on the right path to get back in the playoffs and make an impact in the NHL this season. The Stars seem to be aligning (pun intended) for hockey to get more popular in Dallas with the Cowboys still mediocre and the Mavs missing out on Dwight Howard. Can't wait to see this new look team in action!
