I doubt it would be about JFKs assassination. First Class was centered around the cuban missile crisis, and this movie is set in the 70s. (from the interviews, they said the clothing was 70s retro). So Let's say early 70s. Nixon is in the WH.

Since they already killed Robert Kelly maybe they will have another Senator or presidential hopeful.

I happened across the box office numbers for First Class again the other day. Whenever I do, I'm always shocked at how little money it made. Something like 143 domestic. Way under all of its peers.

The jfk assassination was the early talk, and I'd bet it's referenced in some way, with mutants getting the blame and the event serving as a kick off for talks about the sentinel program.

Here is the trick... in the "not too distant future" xmen movies, there are no sentinals. So, does the program begin in the 70s in secret but not come to light until after x3? Or does a time traveler go back to the 70s and interfere, starting a new timeline where sentinals exist consistently from the 70s onward and by the "not too distant future" mutants have been hunted to near extinction?

Did that make sense?

Well the problem is we see Nixon, LBJ is where?

Im sure hollywood will continue to portray Nixon as a fascist. Which plays into the anti-mutant actions of the past.


The important thing to consider is the 70s xmen versus the 70s brotherhood. in the trailer, xavier looked disinterested and apathetic about saving the world, while the brotherhood is active and causing war. idk if Magnetos actions are the ripple effect that causes mutants to lose the future.

Or it could be an external threat like Apocalypse or Friends of Humanity.

The interesting thing is why they choose logan to go back, as they could have sent xavier or eric. They may write something into the script, like both of them are required to run the time machine, but I'm guessing it's the fact that neither young eric or young xavier can be trusted to do the right thing. That's certainly a cool setup, if true.

I also wonder (sorry... On a roll here) how Fox will look at this movie and decide the future. Are they making one kickass movie to set things right between two franchises? Or are they working to set up their own cinematic universe with movies to branch between the two eras? There had already been talk of x-force. Jackman will continue to play wolverine. Could they be looking to set up a continuing historical arc centeted on xavier and magneto from First Class, then a second arc in the modern day led by Wolverine?

Well, idk if I mentioned it in this thread but Patrick Stewart and Ian Gandolf cant have more than 4-6 years left of their career. They are very old and the idea that they can give 10 more years is suspect.

After nerding out and reading the whole Bent Bullet viral website I am confident they are going to break Magneto out of prison at some point in the movie. The website talks about the special glass ceiling in his prison which I assume is the glass ceiling breaking on top of someone in the trailer. Also, Magneto is shown in a grey jumpsuit on the website very similar to the one worn by the person with the glass falling on them in the trailer.

I think I remember reading that Singer said the reason for sending Logan back is because of his healing factor. The time travel process is so painful that he would be the only one to survive it.

i thought only his "Mind" went back and not his body? Or are they talking about his brain healing?

No idea. Only thing that really bugs me. I hate it when sequels just completely undo a significant event from the last movie, especially something like this. Are they going to have him get paralyzed again in this one? Or do they just not want McAvoy in a wheelchair ever?

Excited about this movie based on the preview, but I don't know much about Xmen. I saw the original one back in 2000 in theatre and watched First Class on TV the other day.

Which of the movies should I watch/do I need to watch, and is there an order or just the order that they were released is fine?

how 'bout we see the movie before we start complaining about what's wrong with it. they show him in a wheelchair when Beast, Wolverine, and Xavier are going into Cerebro. so I'm betting it's explained in the movie.

I'm really excited for this movie. I'll have to sneak away to see it in the theater. my daughter is due a couple days before it opens.

It's been less than a year and I remember almost nothing about that movie. How did lose his adamantium?

I just wish we could see more of Gambit. Shame that he just got a passing look in the first Wolverine movie.

As I remember, the Silver Samurai's adamantium sword heated up and then BROKE OFF Wolverine's adamantium (i.e., INDESTRUCTIBLE) claws. The bone claws healed back, minus the adamantium, of course.

Which then adds a problem to the fact that the adamantium bullet that penetrated his skull in Wolverine: Origins would have left a non-adamantium-covered portion of his skull when it healed back.

/I know, I shouldn't think so much about this. It's not that type of movie.

Gambit was always so popular from the cartoon... I don't know if he's not as popular in the comics or what but it seems like he's never gotten enough attention. Too bad they got John Carter to play him... that guy sucks.

Yeah, I think that was my first exposure to the Xmen, and then he had his own series when I was in middle school. I only read one or two of those. It would have been nice to get more of that story.

Channing Tatum has actually "had talks" with Fox to play Gambit in X-Men: Apocalypse. "If the stars align, I would play it. I'm already working on the accent," he told MTV on Sunday (at the 4:24 mark)...
