They did a fantastic job building the tension during the scene with Molly's dad and BBT. I just want her family to come out ok.

I got the sense BBT was after Stephen Root's brother....why did he kill Root, his wife and the girlfriend? Just to show Lester who he was still dealing with? Casinos hsv cameras everywhere...no way Lester even makes it to his room. But oh well.

Malvo had to kill them all because Lester had exposed him. He was not going to be able to carry out the hit on Root's brother that he had been assigned and he couldn't leave all those witnesses who could give excellent descriptions of him.

Though considering that he has hauled a man out of a building in front of numerous witnesses, it doesn't pay to look too deeply into what Malvo does.

I assume the red car he drove--which really stood out in the drab and snow-covered town--was a symbol of the brazen, nothing-can-stop-me attitude Malvo has had throughout the series.

Molly's dad is going to be the one who puts down Malvo. Either that, or Malvo lives.

Wow, a lot to wrap up in one 90 minute episode. Should be a good one next week.

Silicon Valley is the best for me but Fargo has been quit enjoyable. Well the time jump episode was not up to snuff.

Molly's dad was the first person in this show that even seemed to slightly unsettle him.

Lou is probably the first person that's dealt with someone of Malvo's caliber before.

Also I read somewhere that season 2 might go back in time. I'd like to see the 1979 case be a season.

I think Lou is really FBI Agent Lundy from Dexter. Lundy faked his own death during the
Trinity Killer period in Miami and relocated to Bimedji.

Notice how Lundy always moved around. Molly even brought that up when they were having breakfast.

I haven't seen this discussed here: Does anyone else think Lorne is supposed to be the angel of death, or the devil or something? Are we really supposed to take at face value that he never gets caught, never gets nervous, and is seemingly omniscient?

Consider all the complaining about the Breaking Bad finale and how all of Walt's actions in the last episode were just too "perfect". But that's not even close to Lorne murdering people on camera and never being caught.

Did anyone else think for a moment that Malvo's new fiance was Lester's ex-sister-in-law? They look quite similar.

I'd be disappointed to learn that. I hope it's nothing magical like that. I think the guy is just good and lucky. He's also not bothered by killing. And willing to kill anyone.

Re Molly's dad again, there is definitely a further story there. He wasn't at all intimidated by Malvo. Or fooled. And so far, Malvo has either intimidated or fooled everyone.

Shooting 3 people in a casino elevator is good though? With cameras? And he was lucky the floor was empty when the elevator door opened. It just seems to be a little much, but I'm still enjoying it.

Yeah my bf is super annoyed by BBT's infallibility. It's beyond credibility, nothing ever goes off plan, he's just a perfect bad ass. I got more annoyed the cops letting him go when they had him on camera and with witnesses for the St. Paul murder of the naked guy. The idea that Lester and Malvo murdered three people in a casino elevator and not be immediately picked up by casino cameras and security is implausible.

But...I enjoy the heck out of the series

If anyone had been there he'd have killed them too. I agree it's stretching thin though. But I think his time is about up. I really think that little scene between Molly's dad and Malvo set things up.

The absence of a camera in the elevator is a plot hole.

I kinda had the sense that Malvo is an "agent of mayhem" type character...similar to Judge Holden in Blood Meridien...I dont think thats really the case, but he definitely has some strange way of always getting away with his misdeeds and the anarchy he creates

I don't think Malvo is actually supposed to be the devil, but there were definitely some references in the diner scene that might be intended to show that he thinks of himself as like the devil. For example, when he leaves the diner, he tells Lou he hadn't had pie like that since the Garden of Eden. Well, Malvo isn't Adam, Eve, or God, so the last option is the devil/serpent. Also, the writing made a point to show he was eating apple pie, which I'm guessing is a symbol for the forbidden fruit.

^^^

That's good stuff.

Like others, I hope Malvo is not LITERALLY the Devil.

Lou's comments in this episode and in another one early on (about the original killings) hint at the existence of some inscrutable, dark force at operation in the universe, very similar to the dark reality at work in "No Country for Old Men."

Speaking of which, did anyone else catch Stephen Root using the term "friendo" a la Anton Chigurh?

"Here be Dragons" speech. People don't believe in dragons (the Devil) any more, but they still exist

He also has a strange fascination with wolves, but I can't think of any religious connotations that has

I can't remember if we have discussed Lorne's last name, but MALVO probably is related to Malvolio. MAL=bad or evil and VOL/VOLIO=willing or choosing (as in "volition"), hence someone who wills or chooses evil.

You guys are reading into this more than I have. I do see the thing with the name.

But I just think he is a guy who, completely lacking any conscience, will do anything and is not afraid of anything. When you know you're willing to kill someone because you don't like the color of their shirt, you know something about yourself that's pretty significant when it comes to how you deal with people. Because you know most people have limits you don't have.

Mob guys in real life are pretty bold, too. Because killing someone does not matter to them.

Another tuning is this, and it's why bbt was such a good casting choice: he can look like anyone.

RIP Bill Dautrive

I thought Lester was going to drive into the night after he looked into his place of business. I was shocked when he sent his wife in and didn't even look upset when she took the bullet. Wow!

Fargo is HARDLY the best show in TV right now. It's better than most. I consider shows which are between seasons (like Mad Men, SOA) to be on TV "right now."

Apparently Malvo likes a thumb us his ass.
