The simplest solution here would've been a clean increase to $20/month.

Get rid of all the other bull***** Sure, your customer base growth will slow down quite a bit, and you'll probably lose a few users, but you'll instantly increase your cash flow and may even start getting into the green.

It seems like they bled the old model for so long and into such a dire cash position that some of these reasonable compromises are not enough to save them. Total desperation. Turning the outflow spigot down massively is the only chance.

Except that people that see 2 or more movies a month are still losing you money. And people that see 10 in a month are losing you a lot of money.

the last thing I read about their usage stats was that the average subscriber only sees 2 a month.

Assuming what they say is true.

Exactly, and the new price would offset a lot of that. Average movies seen per month is a bit below 2.

Given all the restrictions and times when the app isn't working, 2 a month is about what I've been on pace for lately.

It's hard to go when the app is not working or no movies are showing up.

I think if you raised the price to $20, people would see an extra movie to get their money's worth. An average just below 2 makes sense for the price point they were at.

And if they up it to $20, they may lose a lot of the users who are bringing the average down, while keeping everyone who is seeing 3+ movies.

Plus no one is going to trust them not to black out the movie they want to see on the day they want to see it just because.

Am I the only one who bought an entire year for $99? I think that's the reason why increasing the rate won't save them. There are a lot of people who prepaid the year already.

Something else to consider, that will benefit MP is that we are just about out of the summer blockbuster period. If you look at the list of movies coming out over the next 2-3 months there aren't a lot of can't miss flicks. This should lower the number of movies/membership/month even further.

Probably a case of too little too late, but they won't bleed quite as quickly after they get a cash influx from the monthly subscription renewals.

I got the full year in March or April when they dropped it to $90 temporarily (idiots...). I've seen more than 30 movies since so I've easily gotten my money's worth already, but yeah, I'll still be burning a lot of cash for them if they do last a while.

Saw this on Reddit of what they are saying the service is now. "Up to" 6 films daily... So I assume that means still just Slender Man and Spy Who Dumped Me.

Only Meg and Crazy Rich Asians here in BCS

Only Crazy Rich Asians for me. (Saw The Meg already only because I couldn't watch Blackkklansman.)

7:30 am - All movies are in the app and appear to work
8:02 am - Only option is The Meg

Plot twist!

12:00 pm - All movies are back in the app

Update:

2:00 pm - All movies disappear except Christopher Robin and Crazy Rich Asians

Went back to two options now (Christopher Robin and crazy rich asians). Was so hopeful for about an hour...

How silly of me for actually being optimistic about this...

If you want to know what two movies are available each day here is a list from moviepass. Total crap after going to three movies per month. And if you want to watch the fourth or fifth etc after your three it will be on their timetable it seems.

On one hand this is still terrible and I don't know how this is at all legal to drastically change the service you offer after people have already paid you. If you are paying monthly and the changes go in affect on your next payment then that seems legit. But I got in on the annual plan for 90 dollars (it has already paid for it self in the movies i've seen) and while i'm not subject to the 3 movie limit or surge pricing I'm still subject to the change of only being able to see a movie once and this new daily roulette of two crap movies to pick from.

On the other hand it is actually unusable right now in it's current form and if they actually stick with keeping these schedules and don't keep randomly dropping show times throughout the day it might make moviepass usable again.

Yeah not thrilled about losing the ability to pick any movie each day when I paid for an annual pass.

But: some actual transparency into what might be available when would be a welcome change after the past few days. I hadn't planned on seeing a movie tonight, but seeing as today might be the only chance for a few days for a movie I want to see I might have to go
Brian Earl Spilner

Yeah, I'm not thrilled about the limited movie selection, but at least with a schedule we can somewhat try to plan ahead.

Gonna do Blackkklansman tonight.

Last day of Christopher Robin came at the worst time for us. Plans all day and night. Might have to get tickets and switch days to say Monday

So if I'm reading this new daily schedule right, if you haven't yet seen MI:Fallout you're screwed? What about Teen Titans Go To The Movies? Hotel Transylvania 3? Dog Days? Darkest Minds?

Guess I'm stuck with Studio Movie Grill for the rest of the year until my sub expires. Not that they're "bad" theaters, but I prefer Cinemark or AMC

Umm...buy ticket to the Meg or whatever they have available that day, then go to the movie you actually want to watch. Just check the times beforehand to make sure they line up.

I just can't believe this business model even got past the idea stage. Did no one in that company understand basic math? I'm dumbfounded that this ever got funded.
WoMD
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I wonder if they've arranged a kickback from the studios of these ****ty movies to increase their revenue. Even if people aren't actually going to these movies, but buying tickets for them, it makes them a lot more money that they otherwise would never see. Could get them a bit of money to keep them afloat.
