A-List is where it's at.

Just looked this up. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of AMC here in Dallas, but man that's a pretty great deal. It's been as good as advertised for you?

I'm waiting to see what the Drafthouse rolls out, but I definitely will look into this.

Zero complaints so far. Three movies a week more than meets my needs, and the IMAX theater alone makes the extra $10 with it.

And can't overstate how much more convenient it is to be able to reserve tickets online. (And no convenience fees.)

Over half of e-ticket theaters have been removed. MP's death rattle now.

It certainly looks like it's death is impending now. If it weren't for e-ticketing at Studio Movie Grill Citycentre, it would truly be unusable for the wife and I.

I'm trying to decide between Sinemia and A List. There is one AMC theater within 10 min of my house so leaning towards that. I do like the flexibility of Sinemia as I have a Regal 2 minutes from my house and I love the Draft House as well. Man do I miss the Old Movie Pass. It was amazing while it lasted.

Sinemia has been adding a new $1.80/ticket fee to book tickets online. Still has value, but it could be a sign of things to come.

Thanks Eugene. Good to know. Pushes me even closer to pulling the trigger on AMC.

I haven't had moviepass for a while, but I noticed they rolled out a new business model.

They have two prices for each tier - a price for one subscription and a price for 2+ subscriptions. Generally the 2+ subscription is $20-$30 per year per subscription cheaper than the single subscription

Tier 1: $179/yr (single). 3 movies per month, pick from their own curated list

Tier 2: $240/yr (single). 3 movies per month, you can pick any 2D movie

Tier 3: $300/yr (single). 3 movies per month, you can pick all movies including 1 IMAX aid Real3D movie a month.

Overall, this seems like a much more sustainable model but it's not something I'll do.

At this point it's hard to sell any business model if they don't let you watch movies. I check regularly and in general only a couple of the largest theaters randomly offer one crappy movie, and that's only a couple days per week. Most days there are no theaters in the entire freaking city of San Francisco with showings. The smaller theaters near my flat haven't had showings in 3-4 months.

My Costco plan expires january 3rd, hopefully I'll be able to get one more in before then. But considering availability is a crap shoot I'm not holding my breath.

Why would anyone sign up at this point...?

New twist I just discovered today. Probably not relevant since no one is still using it, but figure I'd share anyway.

Apparently not all plans are equal in terms of availability. My friend and I were planning (hoping) on seeing a movie today since it's raining. I check my app and two theaters in the city actually had availability at 8am this morning with one shockingly having 3 different movies as options (2 hours later that changed to only one available at one of them). When I checked the second time my friend was surprised when I told her that there was only one option for the day. She showed me her phone and she had multiple theaters with multiple movie options available (one even had 4).

Anyone else experienced this? How is this even possible? I have the Costco prepaid plan and she is monthly, so the only thing I can think of is that they are restricting my use since they know they aren't getting any more money out of me.

We cancelled a few months back but get an email or two every week lately trying to get us back. The things they are offering aren't worth it to us at all. I wish they would have gone to unlimited but 20 per month rather than stay at 10 and keep changing the system.

Model was flawed but I think could actually work if you get the movie theaters on board first and make much easier constraints like no opening week for certain movies

It's been pretty useless at the overwhelming majority of theaters for months. I signed up for AMC A-List awhile ago and have been very happy with it.

However, if you're near a theater chain that has partnered with MoviePass to allow online ticketing and are grandfathered in to their annual plan it actually still works really well. I've got four Landmark Theatres within a short drive of me that have a total of 14 screens and I've had no problems using it at any of those locations (one of them even has free popcorn and soda). I'll have to look at their new plans in a couple of weeks when my plan runs out to see if I want to renew, but overall it's been great for me all year (especially since it was a Christmas gift last year).
This WAS really working well until Studio Movie Grill evidently told MoviePass to take a hike a month or 2 ago (in Houston at least).

My wife and I have the Costco plan. Do we have to do anything about cancelling or will it just end and we won't be charged for a new plan?

Cancel it in the app after changing the credit card you have on file to a fake one. Then scour your credit card activity for the next 6 months.

I have an annual plan and am in the same boat. It not longer gives me the option to cancel it in the app anymore. When go to my "plan and billing" it errors out. I can't change my cc information either since it errors out. From what i've read on Reddit when your time runs out on your plan it will cancel your plan and stop working and not charge you.

It sounds fishy but lots of people with annual plans that ended say it automatically canceled and they weren't charged. It makes sense in theory because we are still on a unlimited plan which doesn't exist anymore so they can't renew us if the plan isn't there to renew. I'm planning on keeping an eye on charges when it does renew. Mine doesn't end until April so there's still a good change the whole service is gone by then.

Seems like I get an email from them every week with a new deal. Checked out all three options and they are nowhere near the original deal. Unsubscribed. What an embarrassment of a company.

If the service did anything it helped the major theater chains to decide to push forward with their sub models.

My Favorite line "Since July 4, MoviePass has been shut down to resolve "technical problems." LOL

So pretty much all the terrible things people thought they were doing they were actually doing. The blackout of blockbusters and tripwire seemed pretty obvious but the changing of passwords and straight up locking people out of accounts during heavy usage were surprising. I look forward to collecting whatever pennies I get from the class action lawsuit.

I think what is the must frustrating (and this applies to cell phone companies and other services) is how companies get away with calling services "unlimited" when they clearly aren't. I wish the FCC or some agency would crack down on this harder.

We are so excited to announce that we are beginning our launch sequence to bring MoviePass back. For those of you who don't know MoviePass was sold back in 2017 to a private equity group and due to mismanagement subsequently closed its doors. Last year I, one of the original Founders, bought the company back with the plan to relaunch it. Time Magazine did a great piece that does a wonderful job of explaining the sequence of events that lead to this point.

I want to thank everyone for their support in helping us get here. So many of you have called, emailed and even stopped me on the street to show that you still had your original MoviePass card and talk about how much you loved the service. So if you were a 2012 OG or caught the wave towards the end we look forward to welcoming you back.

We will begin relaunching the service beginning Labor Day - September 5th. But prior to that we are opening up our waitlist to be able to join.

Being on the waitlist will be the only way to be able to sign up for the service in the foreseeable future. This Thursday, August 25, 2022 we will open the waitlist at 9a ET at MoviePass.com There is no cost to join the waitlist. Space will be limited and on a first come first serve basis. The engagement from the waitlist will help us to determine which markets we will open first and thereafter.

Each person who joins the waitlist will receive 10 friend invites that will activate when they sign up for the service. If you do not make it on the waitlist the only way you will be able to join in the future is to receive an invite from someone.

We are very excited to get back up and running and look forward to seeing you all at the movies soon.

Sincerely,

Stacy Spikes
Co-Founder/CEO

This just isn't a good deal to me. Primary reason I go to the movie theater is paid the experience with movie theater popcorn, otherwise I can watch on the big screen at home. With this, I'd spend too much on concessions
