On my receipt, I see them crediting back -$14 and charging $21 for Avengers.

I might have only paid the difference but in their system the full price goes to Disney.
as I said, no judgment. I do not have Movie Pass, so was curious how it worked.

I definitely want to see Avengers again.

Whatever, I'll just check into another movie, snap the picture, then go to the counter and swap it out for Avengers.

Essentially what I've done before for IMAX. Just a waste of 5 minutes though.

Glad I read this. Did this today.
I'm sure MP will notice I've been hitting up all the Tyler Perry movies now.

So now we need a texasgs list of movies to see that aren't even movie pass worthy to change out tickets

Not a bad idea.

Truth or Dare is not even mp worthy.

I feel fairly confident the same is true of Traffik.

Traffik was not. Truth or dare was because it was one on one time with the daughter

Apparently some theater managers/owners are buying multiple movie passes and having employees use them during slow times/slow movies since MoviePass has to pay 100% of the rate.

I'm wondering if it is this type of stuff that is the reason for the photo/screenshot and the limit on seeing a movie once.

It makes me wonder how much MoviePass creators really thought this through before launching.

I also wonder how they are "checking" the photos
Wouldn't really change anything. It would just keep you from doing it with more than one movie. So that theater manager is going to run out of movies real quick because you aren't getting 7 new movies a week.

And back to the movie-a-day unlimited subscription.

Still can't watch the same movie twice.

Enjoy your cheap movies while you can. MP is running low on cash.

Writing's on the wall with all the changes in the past few months.

Going to watch all the movies I can, while I can.

Looks like their cash flow last month was around negative 7mm. They are never going to make it through the summer without something big happening.

This. I see the next thing going to $15 per month instead of $10 for new subscribers. Then if they don't get percentages or money taken off the actual sales of the tickets it will cease to exist. The issue will be with theaters. Why should they cave into demands of movie pass currently? No reason now but long term it would be a good idea to make some concessions because people like me will not go to the same amount of movies I am currently going to with actual food concessions
While I have saved quite a bit of money and seen tons of films in the last few months I have spent also a good amount on good concessions which is where the theater profit is especially in terms of margins

I know it's not a surprise, but here are some snippets anyway:

Too good to be true

"Unless the movie subscription service can come up with more money, MoviePass might not be around for much longer. The firm said that it burns through about $21.7 million every month operating the service"

"They appear to have enough cash to last two months," said Michael Pachter, an analyst for Wedbush Securities."

"Shares are trading for less than a dollar, plunging 46% Wednesday."

No effect here in BCS. We don't have AMC nor would that price be any good with Cinemark. But I will say we will be using the crap outta our passes in the next two months

I don't know that i'll get the AMC one, but I like where this is going, generally. I'd like to see what Regal comes up with because my preferred theater is one of theirs.

How does one know if their movie is a popular/surcharge movie (besides seeing Tyler Perry's name on it)?
What is the time limit until a movie is just less popular?
Brian Earl Spilner

That's the problem. Zero transparency, it's all at their discretion.

I bet it ends up being just about any major release on opening weekend and possibly second.

They also say it could be up to $6, which nearly doubles the monthly price.

From what I read from MoviePass, I believe the surge pricing will be based on movies that are closer to being sold out the day you want to watch it. You can wait a couple of days and then it shouldn't have an increased price.
Guitarsoup

The surge pricing doesn't really make sense to me unless MP has finalized deals to get discounts on tickets with exclusions.
Wicked Good Ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It will eventually be likely that they will agree not to use the movie pass during the first week or maybe two on big blockbusters in return for a discount on the tickets after the week is up.

Still a great value but the constant changes are frustrating to adapt to by the consumer.

Movie theaters will eventually do like cinemark and AMC and cut out movie pass because they can absorb the ticket sales with concession money revenue

Once movie pass is out of business the model of the individual theaters will change to reflect the lack of competition

They can't cut out moviepass unless they stop taking MasterCard.

I meant create their own to compete
Predatory pricing type system until movie pass is gone.
Movie pass won't last in its current state without help from the theaters. They just have to wait it out or create options that compare

I think theaters have realized the concept can work for all parties and the only way to get in on it is to create their own system

I'm sure there is a way for theaters to keep Moviepass from showing their theater on the app. The Cinemark near me isn't listed, when I contacted Moviepass, they said they had to make a deal with that theater first.

The surge pricing could be used to push people to less busy times for movie pass to show revenue to theaters on those off times to get themselves discounts on tickets. But I have a feeling its going to be used to push people to matinees or days/times when movie tickets are cheaper to save themselves from paying full price for a ticket.

I like movie pass and have got my money's worth for the year I paid in but I'm dropping it before renewal comes up. They way they conduct business has been shady af. I'm not on board with these sweeping policy changes like the limit to only seeing a movie once, or taking pictures of your ticket stubbs, and now this surge pricing that keep getting thrown at us.
