This definitely looks good/interesting, but it's odd to me that they don't go out of their way to underline the fact that it's a prequel. In fact, the quick little "flashback" montage at the beginning of the trailer actually has the opposite effect, IMO. If I was a casual fan I would totally think that Black Widow is reflecting on her life, is now somehow back from the dead, and this is post Endgame.

" but nothing last for forever " or "but nothing, last forever".... did she find eternal life? Or maybe a soul for a soul? I've been reading some stuff that someone (wink wink) has a cameo in this movie... the setting of this very confusing as to where it falls in the pre endgame era... assuming that's the case... and the red guardian has gotten fat... and his suit is based off captain America... and they wouldn't copy him until later, feel like this movie takes place after winter soldier or civil war... or post endgame... hmmm

The reports I've read have it set at some point before Iron Man 2. Though, admittedly, those reports were from a while back.

Could all the prequel talk have been misdirection? Could the surprise be that she actually somehow lived (having something to do with the soul stone)? Either way, this being Marvel, there HAS to be a reason the trailer is playing it coy with the timeline.

And why drop the trailer at like 2am central time?

Did some digging and it looks like you're right. This apparently picks up soon after the big airport battle in Civil War. Roughly a year passed between that event and when we see her again in Infinity War, and this basically looks to fill that gap. Interesting.

And... we now have proof that Hopper survived and was transported to Russia!

Sounds like it had something to do with the Bond trailer dropping Wednesday morning. My guess is this was supposed to drop on Wednesday, but with the Bond trailer announcement last night, Disney/Marvel moved this one back to get at least a full day of coverage before Bond hits Wednesday morning.

So imagine post credits...

screen turns yellow...

"Someone" comes walking toward her...

they exchange words...

flash of light...

screen goes black...

White letters appear....

Natasha will return...

crowd goes wild!

It's obviously an alternate timeline portal. His name in the movie is Alexei

Random theory: The big twist will be when Old Cap shows up to rescue her at some point in the movie.

Post credit scene is going to be her and Gamora playing cards inside the soul stone.

Nah, triangle foil football like Tony and Nebula did in Endgame.

Some thoughts. Marking a few things for spoilers, just to be polite.

1) Believed to take place between Civil War and Infinity War. General Ross can be seen early on in the trailer.

2) The soldier with the bow is Taskmaster. In the comics, Taskmaster is a merc-for-hire that trains goons for supervillains, usually. He has photographic reflexes, meaning that he can watch someone do something, and perfectly imitate it. That means he can shoot as accurate as Hawkeye, throw a shield like Cap, or have the martial arts skills of Iron Fist just by watching some video footage. I spotted a shield on the ground as he fights David Harbour, so maybe we'll get some faux-Cap action. Or maybe that's Harbour's shield.

3) David Harbour's comics character is known as the Red Guardian. IIRC, he's the Soviet version of Captain America. Most attempts to replicate Cap don't end well, so I'm not sure if he's actually super-powered or what. Also in the comics, he's Widow's husband that was presumed dead for a while. I doubt they go that route though, the ex-husband.

4) The characters all seem to be more cordial than I expected. I had assumed Rachel Weisz would be the villain. Maybe she will be eventually. Any of them could be, I suppose - it's kind of a spy film after all.

5) John Wick / Black Panther choreographer on this one. I don't know what that means because I know of the guy who did the BP choreography and it's someone else. There's some nuance there that I'm not educated on. Still, pretty good filmography when it comes to action chops, so hopefully that translates here.

Edit... 6) I'm 99.9% sure she'll stay dead. If anything, this sets up the other Widow to carry on. But she ain't coming back from that Soul Stone, I'm pretty certain.

Seriously though, if this movie is a big hit I think Disney finds a way to bring her back. We've already seen options, and it's a basic comic book rule that main characters are never totally dead.

Avengers Secret Wars coming to a theatre near you in 2028....

I'm still curious who's playing Taskmaster because it isn't evident on imdb. Maybe it's O-T ***benle, who I've only seen on The Handmaid's Tale, says his character is Mason. Unless it's an actor we don't know is in the movie yet. He's such a cool villain so I hope they nail the casting.

Oh right, for some reason I was thinking this was alternate-timeline-cap.

Though I'll admit I'm still extremely unclear on what impact the events of 'Endgame' might have had on various realities.
