I'm not talking about the writing/characters. I specifically said "look and feel." BW had this weird, digital look in terms of cinematography, the sets felt cheaper than usual, and a number of the effects were straight up bad. Both WandaVision and especially Loki absolutely looked better than this did. Falcon and the Winter Soldier did too at times, though it looked worse at others. That one was admittedly all over the place.

Gotcha, didn't realize you meant just the effects of the movie. There was too much of a CGI-ish feel to some of the action scenes for sure. But overall I liked it. I viewed in a small-scale sense, and liked that it fleshed out Natalie more. Also, Florence Pugh is always fantastic and can make an average movie better.

Some of he CGI definitely seemed a like direct to video or SyFy produced level quality.

I can tell you don't watch much SyFy

It may not have been Oscar level work, but that's a far cry from what you typically see on low budget projects.

I haven't watched any in a while. I guess I was assuming they had improved over time.

But this was *always* set to release after Endgame. The pandemic had nothing to do with that.
Yeah, I know that. But had it released before anything else, like it was supposed to, I think it would have had a better reception. The ending scene, in particular, would have had more effect, imo. 2 years after that movie, people have to do a little more mental work to catch up that the scene jumps a ways forward.

Also, you can't include that scene if Black Widow releases before Endgame.

Personally, I could not care less about a throw-away end-credits scene setting up a series that will establish the exact same motivations in-story when it finally airs. Also, that scene had to have been a post-pandemic add-on anyway, because we weren't going to meet that particular character until September 2020, in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Black Widow was originally scheduled to release well before that, in May 2020.

I may have already posted this but is it weird they made kind of a big deal about the cool vest with pockets to the point that BW is wearing it at the end of the movie? Like it's going to be her new attire from there forward.

And then we don't see it in IW or EG.

Rewatch infinity war. She is wearing it.

I just rewatched last week. I don't remember that at all. Beginning of movie?

I'll always watch it before Infinity War going forward, but I think in 2017 I'd be pissed if these characters weren't going to show up and/or this wasn't going to advance the infinity saga at all.

Dammit. I'm going to turn it on and confirm. Zero recollection of that.

Maybe we were supposed to meet her in Black Widow first and then The Falcon and the Winter Soldier but they decided it would work the other way around just as well.

I read multiple times Disney stated this was the case.

Took me three viewings to get through. Wasn't bad, just kind of bland, relatively speaking, and utterly inconsequential. Why they decided they needed this movie, and released it *after* the conclusion of Endgame, is beyond me. But even if it had come out in the proper order, it'd still be bottom tier MCU for me. It just had such a cheap look and feel, not even on par with the Disney+ shows, it was weirdly cheesy at times, as already mentioned, and there's no way I watch a single minute of it ever again. Seeing it in the wake of the Loki finale didn't help either, as that episode is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite things in the MCU.
I think it was very much them giving into the calls for Widow to have her own movie, combined with the need to introduce a replacement in Yelena.

Personally, I thought it was fine. In particular absolutely loved Yelena (particularly how she made fun of the pose) and Red Guardian, and really hope to see more of them in the future (I know we get Yelena, but really hoping for more RG). The action was good, though even my wife, who loves mindless action, was saying "come on" to some of the parts of the climax where she fell long distances and just kind of kept going.

I think it would also be interesting if this new iteration of Taskmaster does become more of a mercenary like in the comics, even with her mind back. I think it could still fit with this new backstory and kind of helps establish someone who escapes from experimentation like that (in the same vein as Natasha, Yelena, Wanda, etc.) without becoming a hero. Adds a bit more of an edge, I'd say.

Just saw it. The last 30 minutes or so were bad. Mostly because of while it looks visually cool, people being thrown thru glass, being near explosions, and collided with stuff in free fall all would be very bad for a non-powered hero.

They butchered Taskmaster. I hope they can redeem the character later in Madripoor or such as a villain trainer.

Earlier in the thread, someone asked how she got rid of Ross at the end. I didn't see any reply.

Also, I got annoyed at the prison rescue when Natasha is yelling at Yelena in the copter as if Yelena would be able to hear her.

Best joke of the movie is when Melina tells Red Guardian that he doesn't have an earpiece.

I actually watched Captain America Civil War a few days before this, and I think Black Widow would've fit perfectly right after Civil War

Well that FAR exceeded my expectations. The trailers never did much for me and it kinda just looked like a less good version of Winter Soldier, but that was thoroughly enjoyable. Not just the great action but the family stuff.

David Harbour was hilarious. Hope he keeps getting more roles like this.

One question, are we meant to know how she got away from Ross at the end? Far as I recall she was still technically a fugitive in Infinity War right?

No explanation. Kinda baffling but whatever - I guess I can assume she just escapes again.

I just watched it, and it seemed pretty average to me, which would put it bottom tier for Marvel movies in my opinion. I'm not really a fan of the cliche of, "Oh, no, you captured us! Psyche, that was our secret plan all along!"

Also, I felt like Taskmaster was a wasted villain. I think it would have been a lot more fun to have her in an Avenger or Civil War movie, where she is using her mimic ability against a lot of super heroes.

Watching right now and agree that they threw away the Taskmaster.

It's one of the bigger flaws of Marvel movies. They just throw away villains when it's not necessary.

I watch a lot of movie reviews on Youtube and I was expecting a woke af lecture for 2 hours. Now theres possibly some things in the film that mayyyybe construed that way but all I did was shut my brain off for a spell and tried to enjoy myself and didn't think of such things. So yeah, it was ok which maybe that means it was better than expected. I'd say it's on the same level as Thor dark world or Iron man 2.
