Love how we got to see Steve as "natural" Steve still become a hero, so true to the ethos of the character.

What I also found really interesting was Howard building Iron Man Mark I some 50 odd years before Tony.

how does What If work within the timeline framework established in Loki? i thought He Who Remains clipped all timelines other than the sacred timeline. but now we have a splintered branch from the 40's and the watcher indicating there are infinite timelines. do the events of the last Loki episode open the door for previously clipped timelines to re-appear? or do the stories in What If exist before the TVA goes back and clips them? or do those events just not pose a threat to He Who Remains, so they didn't actually get clipped?

or is this just a "don't worry about it and enjoy the cartoon" situation?
It's how time works in the MCU. Once HWR was killed by Lady Loki, time branches all through time started to branch out.So the lines you see in the "sky"behind the castle after she stabs him represents massive time variations all at once...

And the opening to What If? shows the breaking glass/crystal of the timelines/universes happening sort of all at once.

The show felt rushed, obviously trying to tell the whole First Avenger story in a short time frame. It was fun, and the production value was off the charts. Beautiful animation. I was a little perplexed by the real life hydra monster from the alternative dimension. How did Red Skull even know about it without having the tesseract for very long if at all? Hydra obviously didn't have time to develop the weapons that they had developed in CA:FA, but had the time to explore the multiverse? And why find and use a weaponized Hydra/octopus creature in the first place? that part was weird to me. Plus some of the dialog was a bit over the top, like the officer who kept acting overly unprofessional to her b/c "she is a girl". Maybe his character was like that in Agent Carter the TV show, don't know...

But all in all, it was fun. My 10 year old daughter liked it too.

I'm not sure, but I think that's supposed to be Shuma Gorath, and if so, he/it usually causes multiverse level issues. SG is a Dr. Strange villain. It'll be interesting if they're going that route.

To be fair, it was the 1940's so that stuff happened. It does conveniently play into current talking points in society and politics that are not real and that's all I will say so we don't derail.

And that was a running bit in the AC series and the first avenger movie

If anything, it's kind of remarkable only one 1940's man would be a ***** to Carter and the rest would be so ok with her taking a lead in things.

I would guess the Black Panther/GOTG episode is going to be next. That is going to be some big-time feels hearing Chadwick's voice as BP again.

So upon watching Screen Crush about the Shuma Gorath character, it made a lot more sense to me and I really liked the episode a lot more. I should have realized that the MCU wouldn't just throw a random monster into the series. That is what makes this franchise so brilliant, in that they actually stay relatively true to the comic story lines and go to the source for their stories.

So it's assumed in my opinion at least that we'll see some of these characters in the multiverse of madness and some of the future movies, right?

i wonder with Deadpool having Cables time travel device he could some how show up on What If as a random thing and introducing mutants to the multiverse. Animated Deadpool could be great with him getting frustrated with all the bleeps he would have to hear.

Ok now I want it to be canonical that Deadpool time travels back in time, gets a woman pregnant, and time-paradoxes mutants into the MCU.

Ok so I watched it this morning and I feel like I must have missed something vital.

I thought Captain Carter got the Tesseract from Zola when she demolished the Caravan. Then Stark used it to make the HydraSmasher??

How on earth did Red Skull then have it to open the portal and let the squid in.

What did I miss? Thanks in advance

The hydra smasher got taken out by the avalanche during the attack on the train, and Red Skull retrieved it offscreen after that event

Watched that episode last night. Overall, I enjoyed it. Interesting take on the First Avenger story. I might have some doubts about Peggy Carter garnering enough respect to command a group of commandoes, (Howling Commandoes, I think they are called), but the episode was entertaining nevertheless. As a WWII warbird nut, I was mighty impressed with the animators work on the various aircraft they showed (Spitfire, Bf109, and He111); the He111 has been seen in many live-action films, but typically it is a Spanish-built variant that originated after WWII, and can be identified by different engine nacelles. The nacelles in the What-If episode were of a German-built He111. Yep, I'm a nut on that kind of thing.

Really fun and beautiful animation. Had an Iron Giant vibe both with the style and the Hydra Stomper

I was pretty shocked to see that wasn't Chris Evans. It sounded just like him. Kind of disappointing he didn't do the voice though

Lol - Sebastian Stan... Talk about mailing it in

Cool show. Lot's of neat little what ifs inside the what if.

Thought for sure they were gonna call her Captain Britania, or something.

I enjoyed it, was disappointed that Evans didn't voice Steve. Nothing over the top, a simple concept well executed. Listening to Bradley Whitford as the colonel I just kept hearing his character from Billy Madison, which made me giggle. Agree that it had an Iron Giant vibe, which I liked. Off to a good start.

Guess I'm the only one who thought it was pretty terrible. Animation was great but aside from that, meh. They mentioned dancing so many times, I thought they came from the town in Footloose. (Yes I get the call back to the original captain American). Just thought it was poorly executed.

So I guess the Tesseract was actually inside the smasher suit??? I thought Stark just used it to make the suit. Either way, I still enjoyed it.

Once she picked up that sword, I kind of thought they'd roll with the Captain Britain thing, but evidently not

I don't think it's impossible that we see that play out in the future.

I also thought initially it should've been Captain Britain, but that's a well established character so maybe we see him eventually in the MCU.

Seen a couple of places that Episode 2 is T'Challa becoming Starlord, and that Chadwick Boseman's voice is actually in 4 different episodes.

so in the Captain Carter episode, Krueger shoots Steve instead of Erskine. I suppose it is possible that Erskine dies in the explosion, but if so, I think they should have clearly shown that. Otherwise, wouldn't we just assume he goes back and recreates his serum?

Or maybe that's part of the continuation of this story...that we have even more super soldiers?

This week's episode is soooooooo good. Hearing Chadwick as T'Challa one last time was wonderful, but there were so many great spins, from reformed Thanos to fanboy Korath to femme fatale Nebula. I thought last week's was decent, but this week's blew it out of the water.
