i can deal with most of the changes, but one of the "main" characters is a human captured by the Covenant who hates humans and works with the covenant against humanity.

It will likely be crap. Hollywood loves to find ways to make genocidal aliens of humans look good and make humans look bad despite the source material saying this was entirely and 100% the fault of the Covenant.
I fully expect we will get some "Not all Covenant" and "we should be more understanding of their need to genocide us".
In Halo canon, the Covenant never took prisoners. It was a death sentence to be captured where you were shot immediatley, eaten alive by brutes, or worse. The idea of them taking prisoners is a slap in the face of the original material.
Hollywood is so bad now they would find a way to make the Chaos Gods in Warhammer 40k or Doom's Hell look sympathetic instead of the absolute evil incarnate that they are in canon. "You see this is ackchyually an allegory for racism and you are viewing them through a human specific viewpoint and therefore you should see their eternal torture of human souls from their perspective!"
Edit - When both 4chan and Reddit are saying the story is going to be absolute garbage, it's a near certainty that they have ruined it completely. This won't be Halo at all, just some random show with a Halo skin.
