Wallflowers don't count: One Headlight, The Difference, 6th Avenue Heartache, Heroes.

Agree

That Bringing Down the Horse album was a phenomenal album.

May not have got as much radio play and some of the typical accolades but I consider that one of the most underrated albums of the 90s.

I still regularly play it from beginning to end
Same here. Great album from start to finish.

Yet only one charted on the billboard 100. They got a lot more play in Texas than other states. I posted Reel Big Fish as a one hit wonder, but if you lived in California in the 90s, you'd hear more songs on the radio than Sell Out, which is the only song people around the country knows.

Have to agree. I don't support rape but love the musicality of that song.

I'll allow it. Especially bc they're kind of a kids band now.

Thought they were going to make it big. Glad I didn't put any money on it.

??? I dated a girl in high school who was really into them. The band wasn't on my radar but I still recognized multiple songs by them.

Kids band might have been harsh/extreme but they played ACL behind a family/kids album and for a while they were kinda doing 1 rock album, 1 kids album.

I hate "The Freshmen" but the first song released from that album was pretty nice in that post-grunge maybe a toe dipped into electronica era..."Photograph" charted at least on the alt/modern rock charts but I doubt it ever got higher than low/medium rotation. So maybe it peaked around 50-70? It was half a lifetime ago so my brain is fuzzy.

Not sure if these count, because both songs were written by the same guy, and I know "Whitey Ford Sings the Blues" had other tracks that got a lot of airtime.

Everlast, What It's Like
House of Pain, Jump Around

Collective Soul had the most spins of any rock/alt band in the 90s, across all kinds of charts (top 100, rock, alt,, etc) and they were cranking out an album every other year or so AND every damn album went at least 3 deep on hits. They were a machine back then.

Santana songs go into a weird category. Like, is it an Everlast song, or a Santana song that he's a part of?

I was going to say "I'm gonna be" by the Proclaimers, but apparently it was released in 1988.

In my mind the 90s run from about 1987 to 2005.

It was originally released in '88 in Europe I think but did absolutely nothing. It wasn't until '93ish that it became a hit here. So your mind wasn't fooling you.

That's what I get for not reading the whole thread. I see someone already made this point.

That was my vote as well. Either that or Lo Fidelity Allstars "Battleflag". NSFW

Good answer.

Battleflag was one of the top car audio reference tracks for my high school. Definitely not safe for parents either.

This is the Entertainment Board, buddy. Take the political preaching and moralizing somewhere else.

Peak 90's record companies and MTV produced so many one hit wonders that I still discover new-to-me songs that I like from time to time.

I'll throw this one out, since I haven't seen it mentioned yet:
