Similar to the Toadies discussion earlier, if you were from the midwest or watched 120 minutes/listened to alt radio in the 90's those songs were are all hits. Material Issue was a big cult band hence the IPO festival.

If a song doesn't land on the Billboard top 100, it is not a hit. Radio play does not make a song a hit. Charting on a rock, rap, R&B, etc chart does not make a song a hit. For a song to be a hit, it has to be popular among the masses. Material Issue and Orbit are zero hit wonders.
