I'm really glad for the positive reviews. My 15 year old daughter (dead solid bullseye target audience) LOVED it and I really enjoyed it. So good so far at showing what makes individual cultures/ diversity good without being preachy.

Haven't finished the first episode yet. Seems like it will be geared younger so I'm hoping my little one will be able to watch.

I'm seeing in a few different articles that Pakistanis are angry claiming that the show is a bunch of Indians stereotyping their culture.

I'm no expert on any of that, but is Disney lazy enough for that to be believable claim?

I just find it hard to believe that they decided to do a show about a Pakistani superhero, and then relied on Indians to tell them what Pakistani culture was.

I wouldn't be surprised, how many English, Canadians and Australians has marvel cast as Americans? I can see where someone might not have understood how strong the feelings are between India and Pakistan.

I'd be more surprised that an Indian would take on a role that portrays Pakistanis in this good of a light

Looking at Wikipedia a few of the actors are of indian descent.

Sure, I understand that, but wouldn't it be more like asking a Israeli to play a Palestinian superhero? Not trying to be inflammatory, I just thought those two countries (India and Pakistan) hated each other.

I agree with you and didn't think you were being inflammatory.
It is surprising but it looks like the show creator and the comic writer are both Pakistani.

I am guessing the rabble-rousers are taking exception with the brother who i think is an Indian actor.

Honestly, I take it as a good sign that the show runners were ok with this.

I remember being taken aback by the absolute hatred between the Indians and the Pakistanis in college. I had one of each in a study group and it was untenable at times. From both sides

Either way, I thought it was a good episode and they did a great job with the style and the editing. Will keep watching.

The Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai from Pakistan sent a handwritten letter to Marvel praising them for the show's authenticity of what it feels like to be a Pakistani immigrant family.. Not that she's the end all, be all of Pakistan, but it's a pretty high-powered endorsement for a kids TV show on a streaming service.

I have an Indian friend who is possibly the wokest human being I've ever encountered (which is a very high bar) and she loved it and said she felt so seen she was ugly crying the whole show.

BUT THIS:

anywho, I had low expectations. I actually loved it and it rated up there pretty high. My fiance didn't love it, but I think the cartoon/easter egg centric stuff was hard for his ADHD brain. he kept rewinding and eventually gave up.

I thought it was super cute. Honestly if my dad would have painted his face green and everything there is ZERO way I could not go with him. It is too adorable. Maybe teen me didn't get embarrassed easily enough. Also, I would have ditched him for a costume change or just showed him the costume later. Dad seems like he's pretty reasonable.

The behind the scenes feature thing is worth watching.

I know people get all bent out of shape about this sort of show being "woke" but I imagine it must feel pretty great to see your culture represented (positively in this case) in major media where that has basically not existed. Kamala is in many ways "brown female Spider-Man" and I think about how impactful Spidey is/was to ME and I'm psyched to have other people experience that in Black Panther, Moon Knight, Miles Morales, America Chavez, etc. My 4yo loves Spider-Gwen and now Ms Marvel and I'm glad she has someone "like her" to look up to in this sort of media. When I was a kid it was pretty much just a really sexualized Wonder Woman in mainstream pop culture.

Diego Luna talked about his dad seeing Rogue One and it being very meaningful to him. Same deal. I think it's great.

Just started the first episode, so super sorry if this was already discussed, but everyone on the high school plaque at the beginning of the episode were the creators and/or worked on the character.

Really fun episode. Feels very Marvel to me, and was really cool.

This came across as 0% woke to me. Very true to the character and her culture.

I'm not particularly woke but holy ***** As a Pakistani Canadian (soon to be MURICAN) some of that felt ripped from the pages of my childhood and I can only bet my sister related to it even more - and my parents were even more westernized than Kamala's.

This show is a ton of fun. Just looking forward to her ditching the cosplay, and it'll be interesting seeing how her relative handles her having the bracelet. I guess she's the villain of the show.

Whole family watches this one, which so far we've only reserved for Mando in the Disney+ era.

The lead actress is so joyful and fun to watch, feel like she's got huge things ahead of her. Her busting out with "Be My Baby" was great!

A- what are the odds Bruno dies in season 1?

B- How was Bruno measuring/monitoring where the energy was coming from when he told her it was from her and not the bangle? A thermal camera?

C- I agree with the posters above me that this simply fun to watch and her joy bleeds through.

D- the training and power experimentation was well done without being too long.
