So apparently in the comics Kamala had a latent *Inhuman* gene as opposed to a latent mutant gene, and this thread is a nice little explainer of why the likely retcon. It sounds like the potential scenario could be that Inhumans exist in another universe (hence Black Bolt in DS2), while mutants exist (in place of Inhumans, essentially) in this universe…

Yeah I think Voss is right. Inhumans absolutely was a response to losing Xmen rights.

Super fun series. Cast did an outstanding job. It was cool to see a super with a functional and supportive family/community.

I probably won't watch this show for awhile, but I am definitely interested in this X Men reveal.

Is this variation of Ms Marvel also an established X Men in the comics or something (I.e., Rouge)? Or is this something new?

Can someone tell me what Captain Marvels purpose was at the end?

ETA: yeah, I also can't stand Larson. I have zero hyper for the marvels movie, unless it's doubling as an X Men intro

Check out a couple of my posts above that go into a bit more detail, but Ms. Marvel had a latent Inhuman gene in the comics, but in the show they've retconned it to where she has/had a latent Mutant gene instead. And as this information is revealed, a brief riff from the '90s X-Men theme plays.

As for Captain Marvel, in the post-credits scene, for some reason her and Ms. Marvel switch places. Like, Ms. Marvel is in her bedroom, and then unexpectedly zaps out of existence in this weird squiggly effect, and Captain Marvel is then suddenly standing in her place, having no idea where she is or how she got there. She looks around the bedroom and sees all of Ms. Marvel's Captain Marvel posters on the walls, looks confused as hell, and that's it.

Thanks!

Sounds like Marvel Studios Presents: Freaky Friday

Did Brie Larson maybe lose weight? She did look really different. Maybe her giant round head was inhibiting her facial expressions

Thought she looked great... but yes, noticed that she seemed skinnier.

I think she looked more trim AND the costume is now more form-fitting. That old costume was terrible and just looked so bulky and leathery. This new one has basically the same design, but looks to be slightly more modern, and fits her way better. And then yeah, her hair of course finally looks good, and so much natural than it did in Endgame.

The sheikh quoting Lincoln to the damage control stooge was a nice turnabout.

Speaking of the damage control stooge...what a crazy power trip. I wonder if in the real world the order to leave the high school would be given to multiple agents and not just one, to prevent that sort of thing.

Uh... let's just say we're finding out exactly how hapless that leadership in kind of situation can get.

I haven't watched it yet but based on the stuff I've seen with the lead, I think it will be fun. Not great but fun. Just because she seems so excited about the role and that excitement seems infectious

I was wrong with this post.

It was great and fun.

Just watched the last two episodes. This was a really fun show. Very cheesy and corny but also a ton of heart. A great comic book show, and probably my favorite of the Marvel shows so far.

And our boy "Brian" seems to be a boy genius beyond most geniuses, plus he seems to have access to a lot of high tech testing beyond him scavenging for tech. Have they ever stated his last name? It would be a funny add if his name was Reed "everybody calls me Bruno" Richards.

Bruno Carelli.

Yeah my understanding is that the bangle only works because of her family genetics. But her superpowers actually come from a latent mutant gene that the bangle activated. Not sure if that's correct, could someone else use the Bangle?

None of the other Clandestines exhibited any powers comparable to Kamala, except for Kamran at the end and he couldn't control it. My theory is that the power comes from the Noor dimension, but it's Kamala's mutant gene that allows her to consciously wield it. Kamran only got it after his mother sacrificed herself to close the rift, so it could be reasoned that somehow a release of Noor energy was redirected by her subconscious thoughts to end up in Kamran. We don't know at the end if he still has the ability to use the power.

There is a precedent for mutants whose powers are linked to other dimensions. Magik and Nightcrawler being two examples.

That little musical tease makes me think they're not just going to bring X-Men in slowly, they're going balls to the wall with it and will make it amazing.

But they need to stay away from recasting Wolverine until Jackman's been dead for 20 years or so. Nobody wants to step into those shoes.
Red Five

Any way they could introduce X-23 without first introducing Wolverine? I don't think she makes a lot of sense without him, but I suppose they could try if they are going for a more New Mutants/Westchester Hogwarts type vibe with the mutants.

I think/hope we're going to get a slow build to the X-Men. I assume they won't jump right back into Wolverine/Magneto/Xavier/Jean, the only 4 characters who got much attention in the previous movies. I'm thinking some kind of new take on the classics (Cyclops/Iceman/Angel/Beast/Jean). Sort of like First Class, but Xavier's actual first class, not When Xavier Met Erik.

Ms Marvel probably doesn't fit that mold since she already knows how to control her powers, but that's ok. She could even be part of the second wave.

Comics OGs: Beast, Jean, Cyclops, Iceman, Angel
2nd wave went international: Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Banshee, Thunderbird (died), Sunfire (left)

Eventually they added Rogue, Gambit, Psylocke, etc.

I could see Kamala being in that 2nd group, which is a little older / a little more experienced perhaps, a few years down the road. But she could also be a solo act or team up with the Young Avengers or something. Or go to space.

I don't see them going back to the original team, personally. Cyclops is the only member of that group that could be put on the same footing culturally with Wolverine, Storm, and even Colossus. They made Iceman gay though so that probably means he's guaranteed for whatever they do end up doing.

That's kind of why I think they do go back to the B-listers. The MCU is finally taking the time to flesh out Wanda, Vision, Bucky, War Machine, Nick Fury, etc. It'd almost be out of character for them to just throw Wolverine at us again and again. We're talking about Ms Marvel after all, a recent creation who will soon be an almost household name.

I imagine Disney+ will be a huge platform to turn characters like Iceman or Colossus from minor supporting cast to actual explored characters. Maybe not carrying their own movie but getting some dedicated time that a 2-hour movie just can't spare.

But at the very least - I'm certain that the MCU will commit to doing Cyclops right.

I wouldn't mind them starting with a lesser known character who is really perfectly cast and let them be a new centerpiece to the gateway to the xmen and the fantastic four. Having mutants develop as a rest of the Thanos stuff would be a cool tie-in and not tey to explain that the xmen have been around this whole time not doing anything because of reasons [eternals]. Maybe start with gambit or a more traditional version of rogue or jubilee for the kids or iceman. Picard and Jackman and fassbender and McKellen are so money in those roles I'm just not sure you can start them over yet.
Red Five

I would rather have Kitty Pryde than Rogue or Jubilee. Better powers than Jubilee, and a less messy backstory than Rogue. Plus she is a love interest for Colossus and if we don't get Colossus I swear to God I will riot outside Kevin Feige's house.

The real question, which was raised way back, is how to do Magneto in the MCU? Can't be a Holocaust survivor, anymore, imo. Is there another central background theme among other characters that would be hard to keep?

They created a fictional country in Sokovia to facilitate the Superhuman Registraction Act, and they'll likely have to introduce Latveria at some point as well. They can cook up some fictional european country that had a persecution of Jews, even if it isn't an outright genocide.
