Episode 2 is pretty good as well.

I just looked, and it isn't supposed to air until Jan 1, but my "setup" already allowed me to watch the second episode.

Through 2 episodes, we aren't getting much of John Dutton I.

Seems like the story is focusing more on Jacob, Spencer and Jack Dutton.

We just got done watching it and enjoyed it. Sheridan really knows how to do epic.

After the action of episode one, this felt like a chapter where they were establishing the storylines for the rest of the season. The pace was a little slower, but the conflicts that will drive the season are clearly in focus.

The girls "Catholic School" scenes are a bit confusing. Are the Native American women getting forced to these regional schools to assimilate them to American culture? I suppose this part of the story will explain itself more as the show goes on. I have enjoyed the Rainwater girl kicking the sh** out of that nun though!

I got the impression it was a home for orphans. In the last episode, the reservation magistrate told the girl's grandmother that under the law, her father abandoned her. After the girl's mother died, she became a ward of the state.

I don't know if anyone has seen the family tree that is presented as a short video on Paramount +, but it does confirm that John II (Costner's dad, played by Dabney Coleman in Yellowstone) is the son of Jack and not his brother, as has been posted in some other family trees. That would fall in line with the previous notion that Tate (Kayce's son in Yellowstone) is indeed a 7th generation Dutton.

I thought 1883 was pretty average but this series so far is very solid. Spencer is my fav character so far. All his lines are well written.

Not sure that would be writing, or the makeup team.

It is possible that she got blood on her hands from her husbands wounds and smeared it on herself.

I was more impressed that she walked off with nothing but then had a shotgun and a ammo bag by the time she caught up with the bad guy.

They didn't show her walking the WHOLE way. She probably just got the gun and ammo bag off of someone else who got shot.

It's like a cooking show, sometimes they skip parts and ingredients magically appear… pre-measured on the countertop next to the stove.
