I pay enough for my streaming services that I just can't justify paying to watch an individual movie.

What streaming platforms are available to watch the best movie nominees?

I've seen 4 so far:
- Avatar: The Way of Water
- The Banshees of Inisherin
- Elvis
- Top Gun: Maverick

I've got some work to do. The kind of work I love!

Angela Bassett is a legend for sure, but I still think RDJ got snubbed for Endgame.

That's what I get for not refreshing my browser for a while. I didn't see the post before mine. Thanks TCTTS.

Who would've thought a movie with a buttplug fight and two talking rocks would not only be in the Oscar race, but leading it?

Not a huge fan of the movie, tbh. Absurd just for the sake of absurdity with a pretty minimal plot holding it together. But at this point it feels like all the momentum is shifting towards it.

But I will say I'm looking forward to Ke Huy Quan winning. His comeback story is equally as good as Brendan Fraser's, so if they both pull off their wins, that's a hell of a night for two Hollywood comeback stories. And they both just seem like genuienely good people.

Here's what I've seen of the nominees this year:

All Quiet on the Western Front
Avatar: The Way of Water
The Banshees of Inisherin
Elvis
Everything Everywhere All at Once
The Fabelmans
Tar
Top Gun: Maverick
Triangle of Sadness
Women Talking

6/10 ain't bad, definitely better than my average. I suspect the same is true for most people with so many blockbusters nominated. There's some years where not a single movie has made over $100M.

I think the biggest snub was James Cameron for director. But, it does feel like Hollywood has this weird thing about Cameron ever since the infamous "I'm the king of the world" speech for Titanic. And I guess badmouthing Marvel for most of last year probably didn't help him gain any popularity among town. Would've also liked to see Simon Franglen for score, but that was more of a longshot.

I was with it for about the first 45 minutes or so, but after a while it felt like they had sat down at the writing table and tried to out-absurd each other with wacky nonsense and the characters took a back seat.

A whole hour of that was just too much. I was ready for it to end about 30 minutes before it did.

A movie about a multiverse is...too absurd? Minimal plot? Come on. Bryan Earl Spilner is quality poster with good opinions for sure, but you're tripping with this one.

We can celebrate its one guaranteed Oscar for Avatar.

I need to find a betting site that allows for Oscar bets. I'm tempted to put down a couple grand on that VFX Oscar. It's free money.

So Ana De Armas was nominated for both an Oscar and a Razzie for the same performance. (Blonde)

Can't imagine that's happened very often, if at all.

Scratch that, apparently Blonde was in almost every Razzie category except that one.

Found this online:

Four actors have received Oscar and Razzie nominations for the same role: James Coco (Only When I Laugh), Amy Irving (Yentl), Glenn Close (Hillbilly Elegy) and Ana de Armas (''Blonde''). .

Re: Best Cinematography, I mainly enjoyed Elvis for what it was (a nearly three-hour montage), but man, it looked like straight ass. Nearly every shot felt like it had some kind of sh*tty use of green screen. Would have traded it out for The Batman, no question.

Plot is pretty predictable but the visuals alone are worth the price of admission.

Both movies are the only ones I saw all year where I was floored by so many shots. It truly is mind boggling they weren't nominated for Cinematography.

And all this talking about how great The Batman was is making me want to watch it again for the... I don't know how many-eth time.

Watched "Triangle of Sadness" yesterday.

Wow. Still digesting it. It's a wild wild ride. Hard to say much without spoiling the ride but it's definitely worth the watch, and if you start it then stick it out.

It's commentary of the aloof rich and social constructs is pretty easy pickings but it's done in an entertaining way. The chaos on the ship during the storm was crazy. I could see people turning it off at that point. The island is great I thought but I can see the ending being divisive.

Why were the salesman on the beach even wondering around there? Seems like they would have been there sooner if it was a section of beach the resort goers would be on.

I liked the open ended ending. Did Abigail kill Yaya? I kind of lean towards yes. What is Carl running from/to? The tone of the ending made me think he was running from something/someone (Abigail?). But the more I think on it I think perhaps the salesman on the beach found the rest of the castaways (I mean how could they not? If the stroke lady heard them then the others must have too?) and he is running to find the girls to tell them they are saved. But will he make it in time?

I'll probably give it another shot at some point. But I sat down to stream it a couple of weeks ago, and 10 minutes in I said to myself "I'm not interested in this at all" and turned it off. It's pretty unusual for me to give up on something that quickly.

Yeah the first 10 minutes doesn't really give you any idea of where it's going. I'd encourage a second attempt.
