5 was great

7 was lacking and the Will monologue about girls was so cringe.. we were all yelling at the screen - noooooooo - Make it stop…. !

But I have tickets for NYE show at the theater

Let's see how it ends

Agree.

E7 was really poor compared to the other two.

Way too much monologue in 6 between Nancy and Jonathon and Dustin and Steve. We aren't wanting to watch a relationship story in a RomCom. Could have done without it or cut it to 2-3 minutes max. I thought Jonathon would die in the melting scene with Nancy, perfect opportunity to get rid of him.

E6 storyline with Max was the only saving grace of that episode.

Then 7 made little sense with the plan to infiltrate the compound.

They have Kali (#8) who could have made the guard see Demogorgons or Giant Spiders or a Tidal Wave, instead they shoot their way through the military complex to get into the Upside Down.

Will's GAY monologue was completely predictable for Netflix who already had Lez Robin, didn't need that to waste 5 minutes of showtime either.

Hope the finale is great, but after the first 5 episodes being great, E6 good and E7 just mid. I hope the finale meets the standard.

Holly has been great in the show. They did a great job casting her and she has been really good.

When Robin came out as gay, nobody cared. It was a reasonable part of the plot line. When Will had to talk to everyone, I knew that the cliche was coming and just rolled my eyes. He can be gay without coming out.

It's just bad writing.

I agree that this entire last season has had way too many long monologues by every single character. Its dragging the show down. I just think they stretched the overall series a little too thin. With some tightening of the overall plot and scripts this show could have graded out at a high "A" instead of the "B" territory it'll likely finally land at.

What was great about these last three episodes? Things you thought were really awesome.

The explanation of the worm hole, black hole and abyss

Pretty cool. A lot of plot holes and uneccasary dialogue but the actual plot line and understanding of what the upside down is was
Pretty cool

Will attacking and taking control of Vecna when he was about to kill Max was a top 10 moment for me in the series, not just the season.

The dynamic between Max and Holly has been good. I was very hesitant about Holly being included in the main cast, but that actress is really talented and a great addition.

Having sexpot Karen turn into a Ripley-esque mother/protector is a good 80s homage and a great nod to parents who would do anything for their kids.

The Upside Down being a bridge between two worlds is an incredible swerver, especially with the visuals they produced and the fact that they flat-out showed it to us in Season 4, but we all assumed wrong where Vecna had gone to.

Extremely strong acting from Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas) that pays off with him reuniting with Max - the true great love story of Stranger Things.

Murray, a mega nerd, bagging on Scott Clarke, a slightly bigger nerd.

Steve coming up with the general plan that is going to be the final mission. RIP Steve's Beemer

Dip**** Derek, ,who I'm sure will get some last heroic scene vs. Henry

that said, there are some glaring weaknesses that can't be ignored even beyond the Will is Fabulous scene.

They've completely sidelined Wynona Ryder and have Hopper stuck in angry protector mode just like he was in Season 3.

Eleven has barely done anything the whole year other than the stuff at the base and getting her, 8, and Hopper out of the upside down, which they didn't show the actual transition for some reason.

Eleven's speech is like Kevin Costner in Robin Hood. About 10% of the time she remembers to do the tricky cadence from the first 4 seasons, and the rest of the time she's speaking normally.

All the people who have never been to the Upside Down seem to have no problem being there other than Vicky the nurse from Anne with an E.

I guess Max escaping and coming out of the trance / coma.

EDIT: Will attacking and taking control of Vecna when he was about to kill Max. <-- This too...

Holly continues to be really good in all her scenes.

Will is not good outside of him having powers, other than that way too whiny and annoying.

Jonathon is annoying and won't be sad if he dies. Complaining to Nancy about their relationship while in the Upside Down and looking for her sister who was stolen by a villain made me want him to die even more. Seriously? You want to know why she is disconnected? Her mom and dad are in ICU and her sister is missing, yet you want to talk about your relationship. Very annoying.

I don't think Eleven has been involved much either.

Way too much emphasis on Will these last 3 episodes.

Too many characters have been brought in, essentially at the last minute. I don't even like the addition of Holly and her storyline. If you think about it, getting an in-depth look at what's happened to her and the kidnapped kids wasn't essential. It's just been one more thing taking screentime away from the core group that made Seasons 1-3 great.

Everything with Max and Holly was great. Getting Max back was the focus and highlight of these three episodes.

Them telling Mr. Clarke and him instantly being an MVP was cool.

The Frankenstein Demigorgon to Will momentarily controlling Vecna was a highlight of the series. Bonus points to Robin for quoting Young Frankenstein.

Mrs. Wheeler going Ripley from Aliens.

Obviously not a highlight for this website, but Will publicly coming out was huge for a specific portion of the audience.

World is ending and seconds count, but he just had to come out of the closet…cringe is the correct word for this nonsense. Is it just me or did they actively search out a collection of the most unattractive actors/actresses they could find for this show?

Second didn't count. Part of the plan started by Steve was to wait for the meeting of worlds to start. So they had some (maybe intentional) time built in for character beats.

I was also bummed they didn't kill off Nancy and Jonathan when they had the chance.

I did like them dragging Mr. Clark into the upside down. I feel like he's probably as excited as that time on Game of Thrones when Qyburn picked up the zombie's hand and it was still moving.

Mr. Clarke wasn't in the van that went to the Upside Down. He was in the tower to open the gates for the van.

Saw an interview with the Duffer Brothers and they said they wanted to bring kids in because this was always a show about kids adventures and their 'kids' grew up, so they brought more in.

I love the addition of Holly, Derek is just ok to me, but the rest of the kids add nothing to the story.

I think they should have stuck with maybe 3-4 kids maximum and then developed other parts of the story with Mike (who is barely in any Season 5 episodes) & Eleven and other characters since Season 4, and as I said earlier these episodes have been too partitioned with just two characters and too much monologue.

Hop & Eleven
Will & Joyce
Dustin & Steve
Nancy & Jonathon

Way too much talking in groups of two and not enough action, planning, fun stuff, they used to do.

Before that.

In Ep 7, when they go to the lab, Eleven moves the metal plate and they go look for Holly.

About 46 minutes left in the episode. They go in and find Dustin, Steve, Nancy, & Jonathon.

He went in with the rest to find Dustin / Steve / Jonathan / Nancy earlier in the episode. It echoed back to the second episode of the series where he and Hopper talk while searching for Will.

It's just standard Netflix. It has to be some sort of contractual obligation with any script on the platform. Must have a prominent gay character.

It's stupid and as always, devalues the character.

I don't actually care, but Holly's age has been so inconsistent throughout the season. She'll go from looking and acting like an 8-year old to looking and acting like a 14-year old from scene to scene. At one point her vocabulary and thought process was that of an adult, and then suddenly she's back to being a small child. I assume that some of it is that the actress may have just grown up quite a bit over the course of filming this season.

Nell Fisher is 14. I have a 13 year old and she has grown 6" this year, so I would not be surprised if she did almost outgrow the part from audition till finish filming, which was probably over a year or longer.

In Stranger Things Season 5, Holly Wheeler is canonically around 9 or 10 years old, though she should logically be about 7, as the show aged her up from her Season 1 age (around 3) to fit Vecna's target age range for the final season's plot. This is a deliberate character retcon, with the new actress, Nell Fisher, being 14 during filming, playing a character significantly younger than herself.

I know. I'm just surprised they didn't attempt to keep the character's behavior and dialogue consistently within that age. She's clearly capable of it, as she stays that mode in at least half of the scenes.

Several other BTS videos from the trio of episodes.
Wish they would explain more how they caught 8. Did they know what her powers were? After she escapes with Hop and 11, it doesn't seem like anyone knows it's an illusion until Linda Hamilton sees her hand moving.

Correct. It made th relationship/story between Robyn and Steve have some reasonable complexity. The other was just silly.

Will being gay is not the issue. It's been pretty obvious he's gay since at least the very beginning of Season 3. That was 20+ episodes ago. Even last year with him obviously having unrequited feelings for Mike isn't the issue. Everyone alive has had a crush on a person (male or female) who you wished was more than a friend.

the issue is making it into this big dumb speech that somehow needed to be said before they take an upside down joy ride to the Abyss where it seems like in normal circumstances, just about everyone outside of Hopper, 11, Will, 8 and Nancy would probably die in the first 5 minutes.

Even worse, as I said last night, they didn't even SHOW his worst fear from Vecna that everyone would reject him if they found out what he was. Because unless you have Vecna scare you to death, how dumb are you to think that anyone would reject you over such a small thing after all that most of you've been through together. Are you worried that Murray and Erica aren't going to be your pals anymore?

No harm in the grand scheme of things, anymore than girl power in Endgame, as long as being gay isn't the way to beat Vecna in the end. Maybe Will tongue kisses him and #8 makes Henry think it's actually a black widow spider kissing him and while he's distracted, 11 rips his head off. Otherwise, I hope that's the end of it.

You have to remember this show is set in the 80's though. It would have been much more powerful if he had gathered everyone around to tell them he has AIDS.

Just got caught up and have enjoyed this season mostly, albeit often confusing for my brain at times.

Thought Nancy and Jonathan were for sure goners and that was a great scene imo. Nancy sucks though for hating the Clash and if I were Jonathan I would have taken the ring back.

ETA: If they are going to kill anyone off in the finale I hope it's Hopper. That dude has become annoying as hell.
