What are some things that you hope to see in the finale?
The Librarian and Dr Clark were excellent adds.

Here's a few for me:

- Ted Wheeler
- Dr Paul Reiser - he was captured, but has not made an appearance this season
- the bullies from season one and two - they were so bad/great when Steve broke Jonathan's camera
- the geek from the video store that hired Robin and reluctantly Steve
- Billy, Eddie, and Barb a maybe even Lonnie too
- Russians and how they got the demogorgan, decided to build the machine in season 3, and their version of Bremner and Dr Kay
- adding the Russian guard that helped Hopper escape and the Russian smuggler showing up in Katina with her big bottom, lol
- Mama - is she in a trance and in Vecna's mind?

Also

- who telepathically unlocked the chain on the door in Season 1 since demogorgans can't do that
- who spelled out R U N in Season 1 since those lights were not there when the upside down was created/frozen

- Dustin's mom
- Lucas' parents
- every single jock bully from Season 4 that was going after Eddie
- Eddie back from the dead playing "For Whom The Bell Tolls"
- Eddie's uncle
- the girls in California who were bullying Eleven
- the orderly who was assisting Dr. Brenner perform his experiments
- the new Sheriff and the dopey deputy
- the military guys who were after Eleven in Season 4.
- Argyle
- the Russian guard who helped Hopper escape.
- the Russian smuggler who flew them back to America
- the lady that knocked on the pay phone booth when the Russian guard was calling Joyce and Murray to arrange smuggling Hopper out of prison
- the moms who lounged by the pool with Karen lusting after Billy in Season 3
- Benny (without him getting Eleven to stay in his Diner we'd never have this wacky mixed-up show!)
- an homage to 80's Eddie Murphy movies
- an homage to the Rocky movies
- an homage to Growing Pains
- an homage to The Cosby Show, or at least Pudding Pops
- an homage to New Kids On the Block and/or Menudo
- any 80's homage that hasn't been done yet by the show!

The worst trope this season is the "at the last second someone unexpected saves the day". Can't count how many times it's happened, but it's a clear sign of lazy ass writing. Expecting 3-4 more of these in the last episode. No reason not to.

It takes a special person to achieve a certain level of success, along with vast fortune, and keep operating as the person or artist they always were.

Has there been a Goonies reference on this show (other than riding bikes around and stuff like that)?

Not much I have to add that hasn't been said. Some great stuff, some ok stuff, and some lazy stuff.

Seems the earlier in the show, the style just reminded you of the 80's, rather than some of the more overt fan service. I was born in 82 so I'm not as authoritative as others).

My biggest issue (apart from Will's soliloquy) is the needless expansion of the party as we get closer to the end. We had fantastic characters already, and I would prefer to give them resolution rather than this deus ex machina effect that's been happening with Mr Clark and Vickie.

Stuff I loved:
- Mama Wheeler going off
- Dustin and Steve's vibe is so incredible
- Revealing the Upside Down as not even the real problem

Other crap that I don't see the point of or hope it will get resolved:
- Did Paul Reiser just go back to NYC with early Helen Hunt? I WOULD
- Russians? Bueller? Bueller?
- Hopper and Eleven still doing the teen angst thing. Tiresome at this point

Overall, it's been a great show that was hamstrung by long time lines and fan expectations. I'm excited for the finale, but there's a lot to tie up.

You make a great point. Season 1 was awesome because it felt like I was watching an actual movie from the 80's. Now it feels like a show from 2025 paying fan service to the 80's.

Did I miss where they explained the relationship between Vecna and the Mind Flayer? I recall some discussion in season 4, but all kind of speculation. If they haven't, then they got some major explaining to do in the finale. I recall them saying that Vecna was the Flayer's 5 star General, then no further explanation. Perhaps I missed it.

Eleven's outfit in the first few episodes of this season is Brolin from Goonies.
Holly's telescope with cover that is used to find the cave is from Goonies too

Then don't watch, it's been a part of the show since season 1 in 2016.

Not explained yet. Show characters have speculated that Vecna is the king and Mind Flayer is general, but Internet theories say the opposite.

The wormhole has been discussed since season 1 and I think is a bad ass idea.

It was quick and quiet but Dustin says "Holy Mary mother of God" at one point which is a Goonies quote.

Updated my other post - what's about Mama?

Aren't they going to show her lost in Vecna's mind? She's there right!??

Looking forward to this thread tomorrow to see how many people wasted 2 hours watching a show they repeatedly say they don't like for the express purpose of complaining about it online.

Ironic. You're waiting expectantly to waste time consuming media that seems to bother you.

I like the show. I'll enjoy it. But if the propaganda gay crap bothers me (and it does), I get to say so.

I was being sarcastic. I have no plans to read this thread for several days to avoid the haters.

It's OK to be gay.

This show is supposed to take place during the 80s. No doubt there were gay folks around, but they sure kept it close to the vest. My high school of 3,000 plus students had one gay kid and he just came across as starved for attention. Stranger Things, a significant portion of the cast is gay and they all decide to discuss their gayness at very inopportune times. It just comes across as more in your face agenda. I can agree that it adds nothing to the show.

It's my opinion. We all have one.

(I'm not even a fan of the show. It stopped being interesting to me after season 3, but my wife and daughters like it so I watch it with them.)

There are 3 gay characters on Stranger Things. There's been about 75 characters featured in 3+ episodes according to Wikipedia. That's 4%.

None of them said a word about it until the 2nd to last episode of the third season when Robin came out to Steve.

One of the three is the girlfriend of Robin, who has been in maybe 15 total minutes of the entire run of the series.

As for your high school, you were able to not only know, but accurately verify the sexuality of the other 2,998 kids during your four years there? No chance a few of them were gay but didn't feel like getting bullied or mocked by high school kids, who aren't exactly know for their tolerance?

I so hate this stance. If you're referring to the 1 or 2 posters who've said the Will coming out completely turned them off to the show, that's one thing. But very few have said they hate, or even don't like, the show. To the contrary most have said they like the show, hence their disappointment with this season.

That's my stance. I invested 4 seasons worth of viewing, even binge rewatched the first four seasons in prep for this one. I loved Season 1 and even 2. Liked Season 3. Started questioning the writing in Season 4, and now am just disappointed in Season 5. But yes, I'm going to finish the show, even though the overall quality has dropped, and I'll voice my opinion. Which is just fine.

No one outside this immediate group knows they're gay, and no one but Steve knew about Robin until very recently.

Some of y'all just let everything bother you, can't imagine going through life like that.

I'll say this, and not that it really matters, but nobody was coming out of the closet in the 80s, especially high school students. Most of the celebrities who died of AIDS back then were in the closet as well. So the coming out speech is more of a "modern" thing. The people that we knew were gay in the 80s were in denial, but it was obvious.

Untrue. There's three gay characters of people whose sexual inclination are in any way discussed. That's like 30% of the characters whose sexuality is in any way discussed.

For all we know, 50/75 of the characters might be gay.

Those guys truly helped make those seasons. Perfect casting and execution. Amazing how rewatchable those seasons are.
