Post stuff here instead of posting spoilers in the MCU thread.

I'll say that I felt like this movie moved the story more forward than the other recent Marvel films. I can see more of how they're going to push the Secret Wars storyline. Cameo this, cameo that, then after Secret Wars have one timeline/universe.

Iman Vellani is great.

Also, was there no "______ will return" after this?

I only have two spoiler questions...

1) Who, exactly, was moving into the Rambeau house at the end? Was Kamala's family moving in, since their home in New Jersey was wrecked pretty good? Or was Carol moving in, and finally making a home on Earth again, since she mentioned that she was watching over the Rambeau plane as well? But if so, then why did mama Kahn tell her son it would make a good house to start a family? I'm sure there were clues I missed in the moving boxes, but I had no idea what was going on there.

2) In the mid-credit scene, was Monica's mom/not-mom supposed to be Storm in that universe? Someone else? They slowly zoomed in on her standing in her suit, as if it was some big, obvious reveal - a couple people in our theater even squealed and cheered - but I was completely lost as to her identity.

Good question. I bolted after the mid-credit scene.

You know I didn't even think it was storm. I was just taking as another variant of captain marvel like doctor strange. That would be a hell of a swerve if you went to the effort to get Kelsey Grammer

Copying from the main thread
I had a good time. Kamala and Monica are great. Also her family is incredible. And they let Carol start to recover her memories so she is way more human in this one. I could have dropped the musical sequence. Villain was lackluster but I got the motivation. The body teleporting was clever and made for some fun in the combat and enjoyed the training sequence they did.

But the movie did feel small and almost feels like they could have made this season 2 Ms Marvel almost. Like the water planet and musical sequence could have been its own episode. Was a little disjointed at times.

One hell of a teaser though in mid credits.

Oh and whoever said that Secret Invasion would play into this was talking out of their ass. I feel like that was something marketed about it and it didn't come up once. It was mind boggling, not even a mention of skrulls being hunted down by the president or anything

I did like the scott pilgrim visuals pop up from the TV show at the beginning with Kamala.

She's not storm. Beast called her pulsar which is basically who Monica is. She's like Captain marvel I believe.

The beast scene was whatever. I'm so tired of multiverse stuff. **** needs to end.

Thought the movie was solid. Iman steals the show. So much fun. The baliwood stuff felt clunky to me but I hope that the people it's meant to showcase enjoy it. The cats were just stupid imo. Can we not just have a plot where the comic book elements are organic instead of forced in for no reason.

I haven't seen the movie but was curious about what y'all are talking about so I read some stuff online and the thought is she is Binary, a Carol Danvers variant.

Ha, so two different answers as to who Lashana Lynch is playing. Nice job on the clarity there, Marvel.

Seriously, though, if Beast said Pulsar, we'll go with that.

Right there with you, and I expressed as much in the Loki thread last night. It actively makes me care less about everything going on, in every one of these movies/shows. And it sucks knowing we have to deal with it for at least another three years.

I'm not going to see this anytime soon so can someone please summarize the mid credit scene for me and who all appears? Which Beast was this? Fox?

I'm guessing since this is Disney the character is actually Non-Binary

It was Frazier Beast, saying he needs to talk to Charles about Monica Rambeau.

Rambeau wakes up next to a variant of her mom, freaks out thinking it is her mom, who is Pulsar or Binary. Then Beast walks in. That's pretty much it. Fan service and more Secret Wars setup.
TCTTS

It was Frazier Beast, but hard to tell if he was meant to be the exact Beast we knew from The Last Stand and Days of Future Past, or a variant. Because the CGI gave him protruding fangs and an underbite that he didn't have previously. He just looked kind of off/weird.

The credits showed that the score being played during that scene was from Days of Future Past. They played a quick score from that and The Last Stand.

Interesting. Then I guess he just grew a giant underbite with age.

Fun movie, nothing amazing but fun and light. My kids like it. Better than the last ant man. The cat thing got a lot of laughs. Went the the bathroom during the musical part so that worked out since it looked pointless.

Agree that the multiverse is annoying at this point.

Just got back from taking my girls to see it. Really enjoyed it. And they did too. Light years better than Antman 3 and I'd put it ahead of everything except for No Way Home and GOTG3 in the post-Endgame pantheon.

The Young Avengers tease at the end was fantastic, with Kamala recreating the Fury / Stark end credits scene almost shot-for-shot and line-for-line.

I laughed out loud quite a few times. Favorite part of the movie was every time they cut back to them on the streets of that singing/dancing planet, Kamala was dancing more and more crazy. I like them taking some big off-kilter swings and going for it.

The fight in Kamala's house was really done, loved her dad and her brother going after the one Kree soldier with the vacuum cleaner.

I'm definitely going to go with the idea that Captain Marvel and Valkyrie have hooked up a few times.

And speaking of Brie Larson, when she put on the magic dress to dance/sing with the prince, that is the hottest she has ever looked in her life with makeup and her hair styled and the bare shoulders, holy crap.

Kamala's continued narration of the story was also really strong.

My only negative was them taking a shot at fracking. Seemed like some forced environmentalism. And I very rarely notice anything like that in a movie.

I quite enjoyed it. May have to chew on it a bit but it's probably the best post-Endgame movie aside from GotG3, Far From Home and No Way Home.

I wonder if they'll do the Birds of Prey bit and rebrand it as Captain Marvel 2 in the weeks to come.

Beast definitely said Binary. That was a name Carol Danvers went by in the 80s - glowy red skin and firey hair. She hung out with the X-Men for a time.

The biggest Disney MCU box office bust for an opening weekend in its history and by a substantial amount.

Quote:

That much is clear after "The Marvels" misfired with $47 million in its opening weekend to land the worst debut in MCU history. Initial tracking was closer to $75 million to $80 million, but those projections shrank dramatically in recent weeks to $60 million to $65 million. With bad buzz and actors like Brie Larson unable to promote the film due to the SAG strike, "The Marvels" didn't even match those disappointing estimates.

Only two other films in the sprawling series ("The Marvels" is the 33rd installment in 15 years) have opened to lower than $60 million: 2008's "The Incredible Hulk" with $55.4 million and 2015's "Ant-Man" with $57.2 million, not adjusted for inflation.

Quote:

The earlier Captain Marvel opened domestically to $153.4 million, making The Marvels the 1st sequel to debut with more than $100 million less than its predecessor.

What did I miss that the actors couldn't go out and promote the movie due to the strike?

Were they choosing not to do promo work in solidarity with the writers?
