I was hoping Jelly Rolly would win an award, but that didn't happen. As a 49ers fan, I hope the 49ers beat the Chiefs for a 6th Super Bowl title and stop the Taylor Swift mania. I even know a few people in my church, who believe the 49ers are carrying the fate of the Presidential Election and the country on their backs.
Shortly after the matchup was announced, social media users started pointing out that the last time the two teams faced off was during a presidential election year. Noting that the last time both the Chiefs and Biden won, Democratic congressional staffer Sam Jeske wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "I guess we're rooting for the Chiefs, folks." Trump supporters, on the other hand, suggested that a win for San Francisco could mean a second Trump termor that both the Super Bowl and the presidential election are rigged.
"49ers are going to the Superbowl! 2024 is the redemption year!!" one Trump fan tweeted. "2020 was Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers, the 49ers lost and then Covid happened and President Trump lost his re-election. This is the year we can take it all the way back!! 49ers Win and President Trump wins 2024!"
Others pointed out that the repeat of both contests is merely a coincidence, and some acknowledged that neither the Super Bowl nor the election results have yet to be determined. So the 2020 winners could still lose, the 2020 losers could still win, or there could be one repeat victory and a new winner in the other.

Regardless of who wins, the Taylor Swift Mania isn't stopping anytime soon. She announced a brand new album tonight when most people assumed she would be announcing the rerelease of her 6th album , Reputation (last one that she didn't own the masters to). That's pretty big news for Swift fans which is around half of all U.S. adults.
No way that is accurate.

The legal history of credit for musicians and samples is long and complicated. The number of credited songwriters has gone up, but it was under-reported in the old days, and artists give credit for different reasons these days because of how music is made digitally.62strat said:I looked into this recently, and if you go back to 70s or 80s, album of the year winners literally had the band members as song writers and like 1 producer. especially considering how many widely acclaimed albums by beloved artists throughout the decades were created by multiple writers and done with other people playing instruments.
As you fast forward towards today, that list grows and grows and grows. It absolutely is a sign of less talented artists. They (most) aren't writing or producing (not without 15 others anyway), and they aren't playing, unless it's a band like coldplay, or someone like Beck, who is like a beatle as far as musical instrument talent.
See for yourself.. look at how big the boxes of names are in the last few decades, vs 30-50 years ago.

I am very surprised that you don't know/know of a single TS fan. That seems almost impossible to me.

Yes, while her biggest hits have at times been silly and not that deep, she has much more to offer IMO. I mean even her most recent big single Anti-Hero is a lot deeper than the song you quoted. If you're genuinely interested, I highly suggest watching her perform the 10 minute version of All Too Well on SNL:62strat said:I guess I'll say, I'm not 100% sure no one I know listens to her music in any capacity. Her name only comes up when talking about football/trending, etc..
So I am not someone who dislikes Swift; I've never listened to her music. But I would gander to guess, it wouldn't be for me. It just seems like teen girl/ bubblegum pop (based on shake it off from sing and browsing through some of her single titles, I've heard that romeo and juliet song, and pretty sure you belong with me), and I know she was country-ish in the early days.
Thinking of those 3 songs I know, I can't imagine why full grown adults would be so enamored over that, especially men. She must have more to offer, because this is bubble gum pop, and never before have purportedly half of US adults been in love with bubble gum pop.
I don't dislike pop in general, though I hate pop/bro country. I liked some of what gaga did, even katy perry had a few songs I enjoyed, and some of those of the past - madonna, etc.
I remember this about the same time as the tool controversy.

Regarding Miley, didn't her and dad have a falling out several years ago? Anyway, she is so dirty hot. Damn. I also assumed her get up last night was a salute to Tina Turner. Tina Turner hairdo, Tina turner dress, danced like her in her live performance. She was awesome.
Hearing people complain about her and her politics lately is so funny to me because for years a large portion of her fanbase has been very upset with her for not being more politically active and outspoken.
It seems like you are more skeptical of her than you let on, and I don't really get why. She is both commercially successful, and a talented artist. She released a fully self-written album at age 19 and had it go #1 as a solo artist. She crossed over from Country to Pop to Indie/Folk successfully. She has the most Grammy wins for Album of the Year. She has the most successful tour of all time. She has produced 10 (soon to be 11) unique studio albums in 18 years, plus re-recorded 4 of her studio albums, recreating them from the ground up. Somehow that doesn't warrant respect, much less admiration or fandom of many people. I am obviously biased as a fan so maybe I just don't understand the other perspectives.62strat said:See, that kind of loses respect with me off the bat.Ga said:

Those are words from an artist that is writing for the charts, the masses, to get a hit. Saying 10 min isn't feasible.
It's absolutely feasible for an artist that is genuine. Metallica was pumping out nearly 10 minute songs at age 22, some of them instrumentals. I appreciate that genuineness; they weren't doing it for the hit, or the success. Almost in spite of really, and that's what makes it great.
But good on her I guess for eventually releasing it, albeit only because her fans wanted it. But she should have done it initially. The fans will come.
