I expect / demand a movie that rocks like this Royal Dutch Shell / Ferrari commercial. :-)

Some racing centric comments on the movie (as opposed to a Hollywood X sound bite) - warning contains some minor spoilers:

I've been getting into F1 the last couple of months and trying to learn the sport by watching Drive to Survive on Netflix and the races themselves. So I'm really excited for this movie… only bummer is I wanted to go to the US Grand Prix in Austin and I have a feeling this movie is going to be a huge hit and make tickets for it even more absurd and a nightmare to navigate with a record number of people attending.

Oh well, looks like an awesome IMax experience

That's how I got into it a few years ago as well, and per my BIL the Austin race we went to in 2021 was as crowded on qualifying day as race day was the year before, and race day was just packed.

I will say that following a race AT the race is really hard unless you've got insanely good seats, if you go for practice or qualifying you'll get the F1 experience but miss some of the crowds. But as a whole, really fun sport to follow.

I have mixed feelings about this film. I've been a big F1 fan for 30+ years and I don't like the direction the sport has taken in the last 10+ years, basically since they introduced hybrid power units and increased the weight and size of the cars. On top of that they've tried to make it more spectacle which I think this film will only accentuate. That being said, it looks like it is going to be a banger of a film, so I will go and enjoy it for what it is.

Ben Hunt: Good for non-F1 fans.
As a F1 fan, I'm afraid of how bad this movie is going to be from a "realism" standpoint. Some of the drivers have had comments that have given a similar vibe.

But I'm sure this is going to bring new fans to the sport, so I'm excited about that. The 2025 season could come down to the end.... and new regulations in 2026 could bring a lot of change to the existing team order, so there's going to be some chaos in the next 12 months.

AND we get a new US based team - Cadillac/Penske. Fortuitous timing on their part.

On the realism front - I think it'll be a mixed bag. Actual race cars (not F1 though) and real on-track driving but I expect non-realistic on-track and off-track action (can't wait to cringe at the hollywood "downshift then pass everyone" scenes...). It'll be typical Hollywood making things look more exciting than they are. And I'm ok with that.

There's only been a handful of American drivers the last several years and they've all been terrible, and there's only one American owned team right now and they're also terrible. That combined with the fact it's a very Euro-centric sport make me wonder if a bit of anti-US bias is showing here (and to be fair our perception on the world stage isn't great right now either)

Yeah, that's definitely what sounds like is happening. Kind of like if we made a movie about our men's national soccer team winning the World Cup.

(though, to be clear, I have no idea if Pitt/his team win it all in this movie)

As a non-FI fan, I don't give a hoot about how realistic it is, how much the Europeans hate it, blah, blah, blah.

It looks damn cool and I'm excited to see it, and my wife (who NEVER goes to the theater) is interested to go see it. So we're gonna drag our son to see it and make a family outing out of it.

Saw this tonight. Enjoyed it- a lot of action, decent storylines, and solid characters. A few parts were fairly predictable but still enough surprise to keep it interesting.

As far as car movies go, I still rank it behind Ford vs. Ferrari and Fast and Furious

I'm probably the opposite fan. F1 is boring as hell anytime I've watched it. Paint drying is more entertaining.

But I can't wait to see this sport all Hollywooded up on Saturday at IMAX!

Not surprising. The majority of the time when you are an expert at something, and that something is portrayed on screen, you roll your eyes at the Hollywood take on it.

If you've ever gone scuba diving, you know that "compressed air" in a tank won't explode when shot like it does at the end of "Jaws". Doesn't stop the movie from being one of my all-time favorites.

I, blissfully ignorant of F1, will watch this movie where cars go real fast & hope I enjoy it.

Saw it yesterday in IMAX at AMC. Really glad I went with IMAX, but I'm still curious how it would be in Dolby Cinema. I might have to see it again to see if there's any noticeable difference. Really fun movie and it definitely had Top Gun Maverick vibes, which was expected. As an avid F1 fan I knew it wasn't going to be 100%, so I'm glad I went in with a "enjoy it" attitude and not a critical one.

Edit: Picked up a souvenir too..

98% audience score. Absolutely what I expected, because this movie is impossible to dislike.

About the only negative thing to say about this movie is that it's a bit formulaic. But it's no less enjoyable for it.

Very much Maverick vibes.

Just got back. Loved this movie. Is it formulaic? Sure. But the story was well told, the racing scenes were incredible and the 2 1/2 hours flew by. I am a fan and I loved seeing all the team principles and drivers that I know so well.

Bonus: my wife doesn't care a wit about racing and she loved it.

ETA you must see this in IMAX!
