Is she not a fan of Brad Pitt?! Most women I've talked to enjoyed it simply to gawk at Brad for 2.5 hours!
The only actor I've ever heard her swooning over is Chris Hemsworth.

If Jason Statham gets cast as a team principal in the sequel, my wife will definitely want to watch that.

Good movie. Race scenes were really intense and entertaining but did require some suspended disbelief RE: the actual sport.

To me it was basically Top Gun: Maverick with F1 cars instead of jets. Which is a big compliment

Agree with this assessment, old veteran wanting to stay in racing and a young hot shot to act as his foil. Still a fun movie, would recommend seeing this one in theaters.

I love a summer blockbuster, and F1 certainly fit the bill! Not normally one to care about the gimmicks that theaters have with 3D/4D, but my local Cinemark has DBox seating in the prime viewing areas of the XD theater. I tried it once in another movie and didn't like it at all. But holy hell, those seats were made for this movie! 100% worth the extra cost.

Some details on the real life incident that was used as Brad Pitt's character's backstory:

Spoiler alert

I remembered that race as soon as it appeared in the movie with Donnelly's Lotus next to Senna's McLaren. I stopped following F1 after Senna's death and Nigel Mansell's move to Indy. I realized while watching the movie tonight just how much I've missed F1.

What a fun movie. I don't think I even realized how long it was. Was the "racing" not actually what happens? Sure. Was there some eyeballing moments for F1 fans? You bet. However, not once was I bored or thinking of anything else. It was a great movie. I enjoyed the 24 hours of Daytona part as well.

I've been a huge F-1 fan for a long time, and yes it was about as realistic as space jam, but who cares? If you want realism play F1 25 on PlayStation. This movie is great for the sport, I just hope the fans stick around after they realize that cars don't actually bump each other purposefully or shed millions of dollars of equipment on the track, and that split second finishes almost never happen.

Totally agree. The things I most appreciated about the plot was the emphasis on teamwork and the focus on just scoring constructor points. There was no way that a geriatric Hayes was going to come into modern F1 with a last place team mid-season and suddenly start winning races. Thankfully the script made a riveting, unpredictable story out of trying to finish races, not win them. What a refreshing change of pace from the typical racing movie plot! I was hooked.

The funny thing about that, listening to interviews with the cast, they make it sound like they took pain-staking measures, to insure it's 100% accurate.

Brad Pitt was talking about Lewis as a consultant. He told a story that they were editing the film, and Lewis would hear the gear they were in, and would say...'no, at that track, you'd be in 3rd gear, not 2nd around that corner', so they'd change it. All because they had to make sure every single aspect was real.

I dont think the fans care, and will enjoy it anyway, but maybe dont make all those claims if we need to overlook some things

Yeah Lewis, instead of worrying about the sound maybe let them know that a driver who instigates three safety cars that somehow lets his teammate move up 12 spots might get a little bit of a hand slap.

There's nothing like it, I live in Abu Dhabi 6 months out of the year and have a long term residence at the W Hotel where the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is. I don't get to use the room in December, but they have the Formula 2 and 4 races here, and the teams are always in and out during the year.

I've got a view of turn 12 out my living room window

I'm sure Yuki is down to take one for the team - its not like he's gonna finish anywhere except the back of the pack anyway.

Last year I think it was Magnusson that did something very similar to one of the scenes in the movie where he intentionally slowed down the pack to help out his teammate (as well as a few other antics that might have inspired some of the scenes in the movie).

Many of the actions in the movie would have gotten a driver or team fined, penalized, and/or banned in real life. And thats ok - it makes for a better cinematic experience even if unrealistic and most of the movie going public won't really know. But its not like it was TOO far out there either - these teams have done some crazy stuff! Its just that it doesn't occur as often or extreme as they make it seem.

One little nit I noticed but I'll need to rewatch the movie to verify but I could swear at one point I saw both of the race leaders with their DRS on at the same time. While that could technically happen if the leader was about to pass a lapped car I don't recall that being the case in the movie during that scene. Little things though - not unlike somebody forgetting a starbucks cup on the set of GoT.

That was a fine movie. Best new release I have seen this year (saw both The Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith earlier this year). Not a car, racing in general or F1 guy, but I was mostly able to follow the action and understand the lingo. Spectacular racing sequences. Peopled with characters that I found engaging. I didn't really notice Hans Summer's presence until the end after the race was won, in a piece of music that was quite good.

Just back from the theater and that was a blast of a movie.

Yup, kinda predictable and some of their race strategy stretches the rules to say the least, but the racing action is incredible and this is the kind of film they make IMAX for.

As an F1 fan really enjoyed all the cameos (especially everyone's favorite principal who is no longer a principal) and it was just a fun ride.

I wondered if they cast an Irish actress as a nod to Bernadette Collins, now an F1 commentator and one of the few women to work as a performance engineer in F1. Thought Kerry Condon was really good in the part.

And spoiler from the last race but I found it kind of hilarious that Lewis was the one who took out JP in the final laps of Abu Dhabi, especially considering he was a producer.

Saw it tonight. Really enjoyed it. Elite Summer blockbuster BUT

Do they have the car? We have the driver" literally made me snort. Such a terrible line.

Would highly recommend a theater for this one. Even a very large TV won't be anywhere near as good.

Saw it at AMC IMAX today. Enjoyed it.

There were no previews or ads before the movie. Which was jarring.

Projector jacked up 15 minutes in. After 10 minute delay they restarted the movie so we got a rewatch. Annoying but they handed out free passes as we left so maybe worth it.

Speaking as a straight male I think Pitt is aging better than Cruise.

I got a chance to watch this yesterday at an IMAX theater and really enjoyed it. Not perfect but it's exactly what I wanted it to be, fun. The racing scenes were top notch. I didn't even realize it was 2.5 hours long until the credits were rolling. I've watched Formula 1 for years and I none of the errors were enough to take away from the experience. They had enough people in F1 involved in the production that they struck a good enough balance. Your average movie goer at a summer blockbuster isn't interested enough in race engineering to read Adrian Newey's book so the movie doesn't need to get into those specifics IMO to be enjoyable. I'll go see it again in the theater if my wife wants to see it.

I now take the listed movie time as the time I should leave my house. By the time I get in, get snacks, and get to my reserved seat there's still 1 or 2 previews and I miss none of the movie.

Worth noting for this film in particular, IMAX screenings often (always?) start right on time.

We saw it tonight at an IMAX preceded by four previews.

Honestly, I think I would have enjoyed it more at a regular theater. I didn't need my head to vibrate with every engine roar.

The weakest part of the movie was the "love story." I'm not sure why they cast Kerry Condon in that role when so many other actresses would have been a better fit. There was little spark, little tension, and little chemistry between her and Brad Pitt. Just a one-night stand. I think they were going for a Tom Cruise/Kelly McGillis plot and it just fell flat.

Thankfully, that was a small part of the plot, and the racing, strategy, and conflict between the drivers was much better. Solid B entertainment.

AMC IMAX (laser projector)……just under 30 minutes of previews plus an Allstate commercial. Not to derail from the movie thread, so moving on!

I agree with several posters on here. Movie was a solid B. Brad Pitt played a very believable character. The racing scenes were well done and did not disappoint (exactly what I was hoping to experience). Nothing ground breaking with the story line. Identifiable characters that checked a box for everyone watching (the divorced woman trying to prove herself, the young cocky rookie, the pit crew member who needed to learn to believe in herself, the evil board member, the concerned mother….and on and on.)

Will watch again, with the kids, when it comes out on Apple+. I appreciated the PG-"ness" of the movie so that I can enjoy with my daughter.

As an added bonus…loved the scene on the balcony at the cosmo. Been in one of those corner rooms overlooking the fountains several times. My wife gave me a little elbow nudge…good memories!
