A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway. Devastating, raw, and incredible. If you like Hemingway, this is the best book of his that I've read yet. Hemingway's prose is unmatched; he's simply one of the greatest authors of all time.

The only Hemingway book I've ever read is The Old Man and the Sea which I absolutely despised. How does this rate against that knowing my opinion?

I really like Hemingway but acknowledge he's not for everyone. I'd also try Fiesta (or The Sun Also Rises) as it's a bit more palatable and not too long.

Personally, For Whom the Bell Tolls absolutely kicks ass and I think everyone should give it a shot.

The Holiness of God by RC Sproul. Physical book.

Absolutely demolished this in two sittings. It's certainly short but I was so absorbed in this one. Easy to see why this is Sproul's best selling book.

Completed (audio): The High Window by Raymond Chandler. Motoring through his stories, and loving every minute of it. Not quite up to the standard of Farewell My Lovely and there's a monologue at the end that goes on a bit too long, but still a great read with some excellent writing.

"From 30 feet away she looked like a lot of class. From 10 feet away she looked like something made up to be seen from 30 feet away."

"A check girl in peach-bloom Chinese pajamas came over to take my hat and disapprove of my clothes. She had eyes like strange sins."

Started Nuclear War and lost interest as soon as she went on a rant that our nuclear war planning session in 1960 was the same as the Nazi's Wannsee conference where they planned the Final Solution to exterminate all the Jews. Does this garbage level out or is it all slanted hippie dumbassery?

Thanks so much. It's a daily struggle but God is getting me through it.

Finished The Power of the Dog by Don Winslow. Woof, that was brutal. Picking up Eleven Minutes by Paulo Coelho next, then onto DCC A Parade of Horribles.

My son has been on a classic kick and old philosophy books. Had me read Candide by Voltaire. Kind of wish he hadn't

Right now I juggling Parade of Horribles (DCC), Light Bringer (Red Rising), and Blood Meridian (Cormac McCarthy).

Seven Brief Lessons on Physics by Carlo Rovelli. An overview of modern physics and the questions it seeks to answer in about 75 pages. Very easy to understand, even for someone like me who has no physics education, just an interest in the science.
