I understand that sentiment, but it's tough not to. The covid vaccine is what changed many of our minds and had us start looking into the rest of them.

Before the mRNA vaccine, I was very much in the camp of "those antivaxxers can just live by themselves"

Everything changed for me with Covid.

And now we have record breaking numbers of measles and whopping cough, thanks Fauci!

They'll be ok. Maybe a little more durable on the other side of it.

As I've mentioned before on this thread. My kids have most vaccines. I can't remember the ones that we skipped. My wife is way more clued in on the details. Mostly we elected an elongated schedule rather than pumping them full of everything in a short period of time.

"some"

Define "some" because probabilities and statistics are important and "some" can mean 1 out of 1,000, or 1 out of 10,000, 1 in 1,000,000 or it can me a significant number that should be considered.

Other things that should be considered is the health of those that are terribly effected by these things. Are they immunocompromised already?

That's really important when considering what you should do.

Our pediatrician office told us that they wouldn't even see my daughter for her timely checkups unless she followed the vaccine schedule. We were going to deny a few vaccines, and this is what they told us.

We found a doctors office here locally that started by doctors that rejected the covid vaccine themselves and had to leave thier jobs/hospitals. They're awesome and give us the pros and cons and make recommendations on what they believe our kids should get/need.

I lean towards agreeing with you. I believe both of my kids have the measles vaccine. One is under 2, so maybe it comes at 2 years old, idk. This isn't my reason for being and my day job, so I get hazy on the information and remembering everything. We dove into it pretty hard for a while, made a decision, and now we have this doctors office that we go to that we like a lot that we rely on for information and just look up stuff as needed.

But measles is also not deadly for nearly everyone (1 in 1000 and what was the condition of that 1-1000). And if you have the vaccine and are protected, why should you be concerned if your neighbor decides not to get their kids vaccinated for the measles?

It's called herd immunity. If the virus spreads, sometimes even vaccinated kids will get it. But if everyone is vaccinated, the spread is stopped.

Because no vaccine offers 100% efficacy nor do they 100% prevent transmission

Great.. So if majority of everyone gets it (which is the case) the very small handful that don't won't matter. If 90% just do what their insurance and pharma led docs say, 10% look into it and of that 10% like 2% decide they'll abstain, you'll be all good.

Maybe measles outbreaks and whooping cough happened for other reasons than just an unvaccinated kid some how contracted the dead virus out of thin air and gave it to your vaccinated kid.

This particular measles outbreak is nearly all vaccine refusers. Measles isn't given till age 1 and as mentioned not everyone responds. If you want to learn some really bad stuff look up measles SSPE. I feel terrible for any of these parents if their kids end up with long term morbidity or mortality from a virus that can easily be prevented.

You can debate whether that should trump individual rights, but it is a concern.

My grandfather was born in 1900 and lived his entire life in Comal County. He was second generation American descended from German immigrants and grew up speaking German. He eventually learned English even though they spoke German at home. For the last 20 years of his working life he worked at US Gypsum along the same guys he grew up with speaking German as well as a bunch of Mexicans who spoke Spanish. So he learned Spanish too. After he had a stroke in the 1980s he only spoke German and a little Spanish, but no English. Funny how those things work out.

"I came up with a vaccine, with three vaccines all are very, very good."

It's trump's fault when the vaccine gets negative reviews. And it's Trumpers who are vaccine deniers.. These have both been talking points. Which is it?

I apologize if this doesn't also encapsulate your views, but it's been expressed many times.

Trump took bad advice from a piece of **** that had been waiting to try out this new technology. I don't blame him for trying to rush a cure when the whole world was saying it was killing everyone with a ticker on every channel showing deaths. All bull****, but I understand his response. He wasn't the one that forced it down our throats at the cost of some of our jobs.

Extremely high percentage of a Mennonite presence in Gaines County. They have their own schools and are extremely anti-vax. Many have dual citizenship with Mexico and there are MANY that travel back and forth from Mexico with extreme frequency.
There are also many Mennonites from Mexico in the county as illegal immigrants but for some reason rarely get targeted. There are also many Mennonites in the county seeking immigration into the country LEGALLY.
It's a hard working community and big time Trump supporters. I can assure that the community is treating this measles outbreak similar to any other day in west Texas

The Mennonite community in the Seminole area also have residents with dual citizenship with Canada which would explain the current outbreaks in the Mennonite communities in Canada. Many people in the Mennonite community travel frequently between Mexico/Gaines County/Canada

The growing measles outbreak in Texas seems to have started among Mennonites around Seminole Texas. NYT [3], AP & StatNews mention the "Mennonite" connection.

According to Statnews: "The cases have been concentrated in a "close-knit, undervaccinated" Mennonite community, Texas Department of State Health Services spokesperson Lara Anton said." [1]

AP article clarifies it is not the Mennonite church that asks to refrain from vaccination. "The church isn't the reason that they're not vaccinated," Anton said. "It's all personal choice and you can do whatever you want" [2]

From some other sources there appears to be various Russian Mennonite churches in the area. (Unrelated, Lott Texas is about 5 hours away.)

At the same time, there is an outbreak in several provinces in Canada. The official Manitoba government website [4] notes that one of the outbreaks sites was the Reinland Mennonite Church, which has Russian Mennonite ties as well. [6] Manitoba's last identified measles case was in 2019. [5]

Update from a reader: According to one Mennonite healthcare worker near Seminole Texas, the media is likely significantly under reporting the actual number of cases.

Thanks for the details. They are likely only reporting confirmed cases which can take some time. Antibodies will take about a week to pop and it looks like only the Austin health department does the quicker pcr.

OP, I wish you would have requested the discussion exclude COVID-19.

Our pediatrician office told us that they wouldn't even see my daughter for her timely checkups unless she followed the vaccine schedule. We were going to deny a few vaccines, and this is what they told us.

That's because they lose a ton of bonus money from insurance companies if they have low vaccination rates.
