Census bureau estimates that there are 170,000 Somalis in the entire country. About half of them seem to be here.Pahdz said:
While correct about the two groups not being similar, I think you vastly underestimate how many Somalis are here. By a lot. At least it feels that way in the SW metro

1) That statement is just flatly false. The Chair said:
But let's also be honest here. Waltz didn't appoint Republicans to anything.
I've lived in Minnesota for over 20 years, guy. I couldn't care less about College Station townie nonsense and never heard of what you're talking about until after it was already over, much less had an opinion about it.Pichael Thompson said:

Yeah, but doesn't having (reportedly) dozens of Democrats on a hit list in your car, after you shot two Democrats, even kind of suggest the opposite conclusion?score4OU said:
There are pro life democrats.

2) You're making it sound like "Waltz" picked this dude to be his running mate. I doubt that the governor knows or cares about many of the people who get appointed to pissant community boards. The soliciting/vetting is generally done by staffers.
There are currently no less than 58 people on the board (Governor's Workforce Development Board) on which this guy previously served, including a GOP state senator and a whole bunch of other randoms including a farmer, a daycare center owner, a talent agent, and (primarily) a lot of non-profit types. To my certain knowledge, representatives of places like the Mayo Clinic do not swear blood oaths to the Democratic Farmer Labor party in order to get appointed to boards like this.

Quote:
Forty-one GWDB members are appointed by the Governor and serve terms three years in length starting on the first of July or January following the appointment. Two State Representatives and two State Senators are appointed to the GWDB by their majority and minority leaders.
People desperately want this to be something other than what it is, so they reach for any alternate unlikely explanation.Aggie_Journalist said:
I serve on a governor-appointed board.
I've never met my governor. I've never talked to my governor. The governor has no idea who I am or what my politics are. I reached out to the board, expressed my interest in joining, shared my relevant experience, and they asked the governor's office to appoint me.
I think some of y'all are reading a bit too much into a governor appointing this shooter to a board. It likely doesn't say a thing about the guy's politics.
The reason this is not the most logical explanation is that the Democrat party has always been pro-abortion and he has been a life long Democrat.YokelRidesAgain said:Certainly seems like the simplest and most logical explanation for his belief system is:Pahdz said:

1) I hate abortion.
2) Democrats like abortion.
3) Therefore I will kill their leaders.
Whether this guy could or did have some more elaborate delusional belief structure relating to politics is pretty much beside the point. Personally, I don't find what crazy people believe or why they believe it to be interesting or important. Which is why I don't get the desperate crawfishing to somehow make this guy fit onto the Democrat "side".
Nobody in the pro-life movement or the Republican Party or MAGA told him to go off his nut and shoot a bunch of people. He, and only he, is responsible for his actions.
Her. Carla Nelson, and he probably didn't have any role in her appointment. Or the appointments of most of these people. As noted above, many of you people are making this out to be way more important than it actually is.91AggieLawyer said:

First of all, what "GOP state senator" are you referring to, and second, how do you know the Gov. appointed him?
The point is that there is literally no evidence for the bolded statement above. You made it up. As right-wingers have concocted stories that several mass shooters were "registered Democrats" from whole cloth over the years.Rebel Yell said:

I agree he, and he alone, is responsible for his actions. And if you believe that as you say, then why are you trying so hard to distance him from your party?
Aren't you aware that as a journalist you are, by definition, a member of the vast left-wing conspiracy?Aggie_Journalist said:

People do switch parties, it is a thing. Hell just reading my social timelines over the last decade I've seen a lot of it in both directions.
Hold on there, I lived just outside Duluth city limits for a year and the high school students I knew were great. Most had small town country character and beliefs. Accepted and befriended me and all us military brats.jja79 said:
