And the protest today, which were largely peaceful I will quite fairly add, were clearly left wing protests supported almost unanimously by the Democrats.

There are currently no less than 58 people on the board (Governor's Workforce Development Board) on which this guy previously served, including a GOP state senator and a whole bunch of other randoms including a farmer, a daycare center owner, a talent agent, and (primarily) a lot of non-profit types. To my certain knowledge, representatives of places like the Mayo Clinic do not swear blood oaths to the Democratic Farmer Labor party in order to get appointed to boards like this.

Whether this guy could or did have some more elaborate delusional belief structure relating to politics is pretty much beside the point. I've never met my governor. I've never talked to my governor. The governor has no idea who I am or what my politics are. I reached out to the board, expressed my interest in joining, shared my relevant experience, and they asked the governor's office to appoint me.
I think some of y'all are reading a bit too much into a governor appointing this shooter to a board. It likely doesn't say a thing about the guy's politics.

I agree he, and he alone, is responsible for his actions. And if you believe that as you say, then why are you trying so hard to distance him from your party? His party affiliation won't matter if he is a Democrat. The media will immediately shift to another reason or memory hole it.
However, if the media can in any way paint him as MAGA, his party affiliation will be all they talk about. Hence the pushback from the right.
