This is a never ending pattern.

Trump announces he wants to fix a problem and immediately applies a solution. This cause the rich, white folk to come out and line the street with nasty signs, to cuss, spit on and demean our military and first responders.

Meanwhile the services they are screaming about don't really help them because they live in enclaves surrounded by other rich white families and there kids go to rich white dominate public and private schools. They are in a safe area away from their poor black families who are also democratic voters but could use some of those services because they are poor.

So the rich white people hated military and first responders if they don't align themselves with the same politics.

They are really disgusting people.

I don't agree with the law and think you shouldn't have to have a permit.

HOWEVER, as of right now, it IS the law, so people need to follow it.

Everyone not a paid MSM mouth or a bloviating congress critter knows DC is dramatically less safe than at any time since the late 1980s to mid 1990s.

But Thermos may be right that its not "some huge sudden epidemic"... its the result of systematic dismantling of law and order. Same holds true for most if not all major blue-run cities. What little law and order remained was completely decimated from COVID, BLM then Biden.
