There is time, and Sean Spicer this am thinks she is going to feel some pressure quickly to backtrack on that initial push back, and call a session. She's about to leave office, not sure what her real thoughts/motivation or propensity to shift is. He seemed to think it was greater than 50:50 she would cave.

I've never followed her real closely, so not idea.

Susan Collins the R senator from Maine and not a single R House member!!!

Dear Democrats whining about Democracy: please explain to America how, out of 21 Congressional seats representing the 6 New England states, there are ZERO Republican Representatives, even though 40% of the electorate are registered Republicans, 48% in New Hampshire alone?

Wasn't Alabama forced to include an extra black seat a few years ago? Is there time to go for broke there too?

Think Bama has said they will not redraw before 2026

So the AP's current headline (via KBTX) about Louisiana v. Callais:

Supreme Court hollows out a landmark law that had protected minority voting rights for 6 decades

Yeah, no bias there at all.

Polymarket and Kalshi hardly budging with this Supreme Court news. That's a bit disappointing. They are still showing over 80% chance of dems winning house.

That's because they don't understand what the decision really means you assume there's an intelligence built into a Polymarket. I don't think so.

I think they actually want to but are in a pickle pending SCOTUS response:
Quote:

Quote:

In 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against Alabama when they took up a similar case to Louisiana v. Callais. They ruled 5-4 in the Allen v. Milligan case that a state GOP-supported congressional map violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, and ordered the state to redraw a map that includes a second Black-majority Congressional seat.

But after a federal three judge panel ruled that map violated the Voting Rights Act and 14th Amendment, the state appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court again.

Republican Gov. Kay Ivey pointed to that pending litigation as a reason to not yet call for a special session to redraw the maps. "While we are not in position to have a special session at this time, I hope in light of this new decision, the court is favorable to Alabama," Ivey said in a statement.

But that's not necessarily the end of it. Alabama has already filed emergency motions asking the Court to allow them to use the 2023 maps in light of yesterday's decision.
Quote:

Attorney General Steve Marshall filed three emergency motions with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to lift injunctions that block Alabama from using its 2023 congressional map. The filings come in response to the court's decision in Louisiana v. Callais, which addressed how race and politics are considered in redistricting challenges.

According to the Attorney General's Office, the motions were filed in three ongoing cases and ask the court to vacate lower court injunctions and allow Alabama to move forward using its map. The filings also request the cases be expedited and reconsidered under the legal standard outlined in the Callais decision.

TN and MS look to be moving forward with re-drawing their lines (as well as Louisiana/Florida of course). More at the link. Again, Ivey is retiring, as well, and not interested in a big fight. There hasn't been a lot of polling but I think Tuberville will win the primary and be the de facto governor-elect in May.

Enforcement in Illinois/NY/CA/MA would be interesting.

'Ok, so this racism is unconstitutional, but it's ok to do it one more time.' Pretty sure that's not gonna fly with Alito et al.

Of course not. He doesn't want to do a damn thing that could help Trump while in office. Worst GOP governor this century, to my recollection. He got his feelings hurt over the fraud in Fulton County in 2020 and never got over it. Thankfully his political career ends in January, though presumably he will become a regular CNN 'analyst.'

Someone needs to sue then. Their map is illegal. They have districts - e.g. 13th - drawn based on race right now.

Man, I didn't realize minorities lost the right to vote with this decision.

Disproportionately impacted, indeed.

Kemp was Sec of State for GA when the Curling lawsuit was first filed against the then use of electronic DRE machines leaving no paper trial, digital only. That meant the voters could not be sure their votes had been recorded correctly. That was an older electronic voting system which Georgia had had for many years. (In response to the hanging chad crap in FLA in 2000.

It was Kemp, as Sec State that brought in Dominion for mandatory state wide use. This despite Dominion using the QR codes to record the votes and not the voter's actual selection. There was a supposed paper ballot the voter received but again since it was QR based, still could not be sure of accuracy. Despite trying to get the Curling case dismissed the court left it in place and turned attention to Dominion after that

Marc Elias has filed a suit in Louisiana to force the state to use the unconstitutional map SCOTUS ruled on.

He will lose, yet again. Andrea is a great follow, fwiw.

There is this hold out traitor Rep in South Carolina at the moment;

AL, MS, LA look to be full steam ahead, and TN is as well I believe. GA of course is out (TDS), but will in 2030 in any case. FL and TX are done-deals.

I'm surprised the VA state supreme court didn't issue their ruling this week, wonder if Callais will factor in somehow as to their thoughts about the constitutional amendment referendum matter. Illinois has no clue what map they will use.

Any I am missing?
