No one knows the answer to that question but the mountain is short about 68 inches compared to the median. That's not a number they will make up as time goes. The current projection for the state is somewhere in the 20-30 percentile of the last 40 and that's using historical data to project the future. Problem is were historically in a terrible year so the 20-30% is basicslly just regression to the mean. If You only use the Last 10 years, it's somewhere in the 10-15%. Bad News Is the projection is basicslly a steady slope. The next 14 Day forecast doesn't match the projection so it's likely to fall even further through new years. BARF

There won't be significantly less people. There will just be significantly less of the mountain open which will make it feel much much much more crowded than normal. Think of you turned an 8 Lane highway into a 4 Lane highway but only decreased the number of cars by 10-15%. It's Not a good combo.

So how bad is Purgatory going to be on Mon and Tuesday for a bunch of beginners?

That is a holiday week. I'd expect it to be somewhat crowded. They did open the bunny hill lift and you can also get up to the top and then go hard left and ski SAs psyche and bank down to 2 and lap that. 2 is not a detachable so it's a bit of a tough load but the lifties can help. Those runs will be relatively uncrowded and 2 rarely gets lines.

If you're staying on groomers and are a beginner, the snow conditions will be fine. You're biggest threat won't be the snow, Itll be the other riders. Masses of Pizza and French Fries and wide shoulder initiated into the mountain chest side turns become super peligroso when you have holiday crowds on limited terrain w people that think they're in control yet treating a green/blue funnel run as a WC GS event with little regard to anyone elses safety.

Good News - SNOW in the forecast! Like 20ish inches
Bad News - Still below the 2 week average for this time of year (12.5 inches per week through January). Thats the easiest barometro. If the 14 day average is 24 or above it's above average, if it's under, it's below average. So, 20 over 15 is great but still actually a little short of the average so still falling behind the avg season totals.

I'll take 2 inches at the moment so stoked w 20 but still not what we need to catch up.

I go to that area in the summer now and then. Never thought about winter. How are the roads?

Never had an issue, this March will be the fifth year in a row skiing there. Easy non stop flight from MSP. Incredibly cheap lift tickets (ski 3 days there for the price of 1 elsewhere).

Not super high altitude, so you get fog occasionally, and it is much colder than some other places. Other than that we absolutely love it.

Telluride Ski Patrol will strike starting 12/27.

Headed to salida and monarch mountain - arrive Saturday - ski school for the kids on Sunday. Bring me some pow!

Looks like you'll have a good chance to catch a couple of inches or more. Enough to have the little ones see it snow. Cooler temps this weekend so ski school should be just fine.

Someone was telling me recently they opened up a whole new section of runs for the first time or are just about to.

No Name Basin. 377 New skiable acres. 10/12 New runs. Almost a 50% expansion off BW & panorama. 1000 ft vertical so pretty flat but some hike to glades. Intermediate to expert terrain.

Still not open this season but the plan is to open it snow permitting. No new lifts. Access off breeze way and panorama

Telluride will be CLOSED starting the 27th of this month. Just a Head up for anyeone headed that way.

Thanks yall. The smartest thing I did this year was book Purgatory again instead of Angel Fire as we didn't want to have to drive as far as last year woth small kids.

Hopefully we can manage thru it. I've been less than a handful of times and am that guy scared my kids and I are going to get wiped out by the folks who think they are on the Autobahn.

Chuck FA and he's about to FO what a bad bad idea closing represents. He shouldve asked Mrs. Lynch at Vail before ****ting where he sleeps to prove a point. Colorado Sun did a piece on the impact of a prolonged work stoppage and the financial hit to TellSki. They estimated $50-100 million between lost revenue and value of the hill. Couldnt happen to a more miserable person.

The ski patrol wage increase would represent about an extra $300,000 a year in salaries and benefits. Thats $300,000 for a company with $180 million in annual revenue.

Ski Patrol has actual skills. You can't smoke weed drink and do ecstacy all night and then show up and Patrol. The same can't be said for the other 99% of positions on the hill. Ask me how I know….

It's like comparing the skills of a doctors office receptionist to the actual doctor they work for. True they both work for the same company and yes you do need the receptionist, but it's alot easier to replace a high school drop out GED than an MD.

Chucks a little prince. The ski Patrol are his peasents. He doesn't like when the peasents don't fall in line. Usually he uses other tactics (dudes been sued for fraud more times than Biden tried to indite Trump). Hes a slim ball that daddy the Dr made sure could use warbucks money to never work a day in his life.

Looks like Telluride is pretty much closed anyway due to lack of snow.

I still think it's more popular as a summer destination (ironically I've never been in summer).
