First time going to park city on the 31st. Hoping for a snow miracle. Not looking good.

Colorado & Utah GFS runs through 1/1/26. These do included simulated melt off and evaporacion when the temps are forecasted to be above freezing. So, higher elevation and lower sun angle will be deeper than modeled.

I've landed on Sun Valley for the ski week. Leave tomorrow and will bum around Hailey/Ketchum. Maybe find a hot-sping to camp.

I tried to hold out hope for UT, J-Hole or Big Sky. They are still forecasted to be on the wrong side of the low pushing in, i.e. rain. ID getting a good dose of moisture and cold.

The Idaho panhandle is not. It's currently 38* and raining at Schweitzer.

On the bright side, temps are supposed to drop tonight/tomorrow and that moisture should turn to snow.

That's why I'm going high! Bald base is super high relative to everything around it. Solid snow the entire week.

Well, ***** I read every forecast but the wind I guess.

I just got to Hailey and it's a wind warning all tomorrow with 80mph gusts at the summit of Bald.

It's supposed to calm down by the afternoon. I did bring a touring set up. Maybe I can skin a head lamp sunset. Doubtful, I think I just burned a day of PTO to sit around a lodge. No matter, happy to have skis back in the van. Forecast rips the rest of the week. Camping in the Elkhorns Friday on the way home for a morning tour that is 100% looking prime. Have to be back in Portland for a Latke*? Jewish thing at 3 Saturday with some wife friends. Whatever, I'm there because she let me be here.

Amazingly the Purg back side lift 3runs were skiable, mostly. Quite icy until the Sun and daytime temps softened the surface a bit. Some pepper and weed tops sticking up in some of the rougher areas but the main blues had adequate coverage. With almost no bare spots to be seen. They were making snow furiously on the front side blue runs not yet open. It wasn't pretty but it was doable.

I also got first chair up, and last chair up today, which is a sane day first for me. 9am till 4pm. Go hard and go home more satisfied.

Weird day. Bluebird pow up high, rain soaked low. Shutdown by wind after 6 runs.

All in all, the camper was the only thing damaged, and it's insured. Could have been a lot worse.

I know about several buildings in the area that sustained really bad damage, including a hunting lodge up the road a few miles that got basically cut in half.

In PC with the family. Getting some individual time in before bunny slopes with kids. Weather is beautiful (not so yesterday) and, yes, a lot more snow is needed, but it beats Texas! Merry Christmas and Gig Em!

Glad you're okay. Heard there was some serious flooding in your neck of the woods. Had a co-worker have to make a trip up to Libby to look at a diversion dam.

Have been skiing Deer Valley this week and it hasn't been great but it beats sitting at home in Houston. Today however is the first real cold day and they are making a ton of snow. Yesterday was a **** show. Felt like I was getting blown up hill at one point and then got stuck going down in frozen rain/sleet/hail. It was wild for sure.

Joke yesterday at Keystone was that it finally snowed in Colorado but unfortunately landed in KS. The winds were NUTS.

Yeah, it's really bad up there. A ton of bridges washed out. The water got within a couple of inches of reach the highway bridge just down from our place. That would have been a huge mess.

Looks like Park Ciry should get something the next 10 days. If they can open the orange bubble by 1/4 I'll be pumped.

Low-key banger day. From carvey-boy skis in the morning to the 120s at lunch. Foot of snow by close.

28k of vert on 3 runs. Side hit wonderland in the afternoon. Never got bored.

Uphilling Sun Valley + a few hours of lift skiing. Then trying to get back to Portland. Threat of death if I'm not back by lunch Saturday.

Ski-in/out with shore power.

What's that thing got for heat when not running the engine? Electric space heater?

Or propane furnace?

It's a system by Rixen. It sips the van's diesel tank to heat a glycol loop for heat and hot water. It can also heat on AC/shore, but it's not very effective.

Pushed the limits last night on electric. -1F and the cold water and grey sink froze. Electric heat couldn't keep up past 50'ish at the thermostat. With the diesel added it did get into the 60s. But also worried about the fuel gelling at 3am. So there I was adding additive in my PJs and a headlamp.

I don't think it actually made a difference. Some Oregon stops advertise winterized diesel, but most don't. I'm sure it all is, but Hood hardly freezes below 15 F. Never a worry. This dip was new to me and I now know some freeze corners and maybe some fuel issues. In the end I was cooking in the loft. Shed all the blankets and layers, but the front cab could not maintain. So I continued to cook at its expense because it had the thermostat. Turned it down to 45 (translate to 68 on the back) and the pipes froze in the middle.

Surprised that $250k rig doesn't have electric tank heaters to keep from freezing

With shore power, what sort of power (thinking plugin 110v) capacity do you have?

We have a small electric space heater for our RV that gets used when I don't want to run the furnace.

Finalizing a trip to Zermatt, SW for late January with my son. Looking forward to skiing elsewhere, but still seem to like the western Rockies.

Keeping 2 adults and 1 kid's crap in our locker is driving me insane.

Need suggestions on how to make this fit better.

Great snow! They advised to stay on the groom, but it was too great not. It's such a gem. Lifties were shoving a shovel into the bull wheel 5 minutes before open and shrugged, then ran it. I asked the ticket office about uphill and they had no idea. Patrol and groomers just cruised by me at 5:30AM. I had reflector and flashers, so… chill. The entire place is so Texas for me. Ehh, it hunts.

We unfortunately have to be back in DFW for Christmas. High of 80, bleh. Bach for NYE as is our tradition.

Maybe if we sprung for the $250 it wouldn't have frozen. Not quite that price tag. We are insulated outside and have trace heaters for valves. I'm guessing it froze inside somewhere. I normally exhaust on low via MaxAir, but it has an annoying click right now (I can't sleep it's so loud). So I only manually opened it. Tons of ice on the front windshield inside, so my condensation and cold cold. I cooked in the back, I just need that air to make its way forward. No biggie. Surprised the van started right up. It was still in single digits F when I left and the diesel was fine. Poked right out. Again, added some additive in the middle of the night. But it was damn cold.

I think they're 1990. They're 195s that I got at a thrift store for $15. They are destined for a ski chair but I thought today would be a fun day to let them eat. Surprisingly fun, they make you work but are really fast when you point them, and skate super easily! If things don't fill in soon I'll probably put another couple days on them before they get cut up

I know what Angel Fire's website says, and it ain't good.

Cancel trip for 1/3-8? Or keep travel plans in hope of something around the first of year? 10 day forecast is pretty hot garbage. Literally and figuratively.

I'd cancel personally. 5 inch base is less than Mount Aggie.
