I don't have a dog in the fight. I didn't at Park City either. I do think he's battling it the more effective way though. Just shut down the whole thing instead of bringing in patrollers from other hills. Now everyone is hurting because of the ski patroller's strike. There will be a lot more pressure on the union. I'm interested to see how this works out compared to Park City.

Telluride is independent. They tried to gire scabs and they tried to use Montrose Health as well and it didn't Work. No One creossed the line.

They didn't want to close. He didn't have the scabs to even run a skeleton open so he had to close.

The town hates Chuck. They arent on his side. They LOATHE hin with a passion.

None of this is falling back on the SP locally. It's all falling of CH. Now the town hates him even more. You forgot most of these ski Patrol captains are locals w families and connections etc.

Chuck lives in the palace in the sky.

Agree everyone hates Chuck. But local support shifted some (from what used to be 100% for SP) after telski made an offer that's in line with other similar resorts' SP. I've already seen one long time local business come out publicly against SP.

Again, I don't have a dog in the fight. And whether he wanted to close or not doesn't change my opinion that closing really squeezes ski patrol. I'm interested to see how it works out for both sides.

His loan covenants won't let him stay closed for long.

He closed because he has no one ability to legally open the mountain until the scabs they did hire are Certified and trained. That doesn't take long but it does take time.

I'd guess they will be closed no longer than a week then scab crews will hold the s lack until they reach an agreement. So they will likely be open by the 3-4th of January but they will be restricted in terms of on mountain ops and terrain openings.

We both got sent an offer to scab and declined. It was a pretty sweet package if I'm being honest. Doesn't reflect well that they're offering 30% higher wages plus housing plus ext years pass free for out of town help but won't pay the same to their local crew. It really doesn't add up and makes you think there's more to this in Chucks mind than just money. It's ego.

Wife and I are heading to Park City Jan 24-28th. Today is the last day to cancel our vrbo without penalty. I think we're just gonna roll the dice. I snowboard and she skis, but we're fine just cruising down groomers so hopefully it won't be too bad.

Going back to PC with the family for spring break. Not worried about that one...yet.

Just got off the mountain. Skiing was ok for the limited runs that are open. Looks like snow clouds heading this way so hopefully we get several inches and the temps get more favorable for snow making. On the plus side I got to fish some water that is usually frozen over this time of the year.

New UT and CO 14 Days GFS runs have gone from 20-30 inches across the state to the following. Just the way it seems to be going this year.

The reason these snow depths are so Awful is because they include the forecast of rain around new years. It's not a lack of moisture, it's a lack of cold temps when the moisture arrives.

Gandolf (our cat) is summoning the snow gods. Outside of burning the Chuck effigy in downtown Telluride on New Years Eve or Rob Katz alive in jeans, I think Gandolf may be our only hope.

On a totally other note - not sure if anyone has noticed How AWFUL the Opensnow forcasts have been since they switched to AI. Scuttlebutt is they will be ditching the AI forecasts and going back to their historical modeling. Since the beginning of the season When their AI forecast has ssignificantly deviated from the GFS, the GFS has been MUCH more accurate.

Hoping the next two weeks is the opposite because if the GFS holds it's gonna be the death of this season for UT/CO. We can't fall another 2ft behind through Middle of January (Thatd be 70/80/90 inches below average) and keep the bandaid from being ripped off.

Weve had about a 40% cancellation rate through the new year. Weve now even started having MLK day cancellations.

Not setting up like a year w a late Jan/Feb/March reset. Feels more like a 2018 Winter where it just sucks the whole season.

Good time to buy some MTN puts.

This **** snow pack has some big implicaciones for summer too. Rafting is gonna be ass w the lower flow rates from the melt, widefire Risk w be elevated, and the rivers are going to be so warm because of the low flow rate that the state will likely be restricting fishing on most of the tributaries and smaller streams/rivers.

It's a domino effect that doesn't just hurt the Winter crowd

Come on Gandolf!

Lake Tahoe/ Heavenly and Mt. Rose had a big storm Monday thru Friday with 4 Feet of snow. Only problem was the closed roads going up the hill and having to fly home on Friday. Hopefully the upcoming 30s and low 40s forecasted for next week will not melt the new snow. Maybe the next storm will move into the Rockies as this storm stayed in the Sierra range. Wish we could have stayed longer.

I'm in SLC for Christmas and the valley just received a skiff of snow! Odd year for sure. Hoping for lots more soon, BC is correct about the spring runoff, rafting season and most importantly fishing season impacts

Edit- guess hell finally froze over, the President of the Church of Latter Day Saints passed away overnight. The snow must be a sign from heaven.

Bad news is everyone is getting out on the few open runs. Hopefully we get another 6 before I get there on the third.
