Yeah if we could have this weather 75% of the time, I would be a happy man. But then if we had SoCal weather all the time, 20MM people would live here. But Yeah, Ive been outside almost sun up to sun down all weekend.

Good, I like a chilly cookoff, unless it's raining too.

Looking like low 80s next Saturday. I'm going to warm up the pool. I think every year there is a week in Feb of great weather for a swim followed by a cold snap.
Curious what it costs to do that? We have a gas heater but have never attempted to heat the pool. I do know Ive heard it takes a full day or so. Worried about getting an outrageous gas bill.

Water temp should be in the high 60s/low70s this week. Heating it up 10 or 15 degrees or so won't be too much.

rule of thumb is one degree per hour.

Really gets expensive when you try and take it up 30 degrees and then hold it for a few days.

We've never done it ourselves, but the previous homeowners told us it cost them about $200 to heat up our pool for one evening. Not sure the temp, but it's a 40k gallon pool and this would've been 10+ years ago.

No idea. I have a heat pump and not a gas heater. Plus the sun will help with the heating.

45-ft x20-ft x 6-ft would be around 40k gallons

We just cut back colder weather stuff from the menu (chili / beans, etc.) from the menu for our food order as everything long range is predicting 70deg highs and 50s lows.

I told my neighbor right after the snow: "You watch, it'll be 80 degrees here within two weeks."

Maybe I should become a meteorologist.

not a bad strategy. Maybe the moochers there for free booze who don't intend to give business to the sponsors will fart less.

If I could cheaply & easily fill the damn thing in with dirt and be done with it, I would. Such a money pit, especially for the amount of use it gets. But it came with the house, so...

I've always heard that a pool doesn't boost home values when it comes to selling. So I dunno. The house is 40+ years old and the pool probably isn't all that much newer. So it didn't likely move the needle on the home cost when we bought 10 years ago. It was a package deal, so what are you gonna do?

I have always heard this too but I dont buy it one bit in this market.

I think people used to say that because it cuts your prospective buyers in half because a lot of people dont want a pool.

but there are so many buyers these days I think it absolutely adds value. Particularly if you arent in a rush to sell.
htxag09
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Depends on the market. I truly don't think they add much if any value in my neighborhood based on listings I see. I know that's not the case in others.

I do think that COVID created a new generation of buyers that wanted one. That and inflation drastically increased the costs to put one in. So someone who's had a pool for 5/6 years and did it for $50K may see that return when they sell. However, putting in that exact same pool now for $100K may not see that return....

yep I agree completely. I never looked at houses with a pool but now I do because I know if I ever do want one I better get one already installed.

No, not in Lakewood Forest. But if I'm thinking of the right neighborhood, same general home type and age with a big larger lots for some of the homes.
