https://sports.yahoo.com/article/houston-astros-pitcher-luis-garcia-023133587.html

Garcia is already out for next year with his elbow issues again. It's time for a new pitching coach or something. It can't be coincidence that practically all our pitchers have the same issues. Even all the ones who called up from the minors start having problems

Injuries have been a huge issue for this team this year, so making the playoffs is probably a stretch goal for them. Not looking good.

Unpopular take: Altuve needs to retire. He's more of a liability than a weapon now, especially his base running. His bat is ice cold.

Altuve is not what he once was but he's fine.

He's hitting .265 with 26 homers and 75 RBIs.

He's a little cold right but he's still making hard contact.

I'd MUCH rather have him at the plate than Dubon and anyone else we have on this roster other than Pena, Correra, and Paredes from an infield standpoint.

There will come a time when Altuve needs to go but it ain't now.

We are just lucky we got Paredes and Cam Smith for Tucker. That will help keep us relevant in 2026 and 2027 while we still have Pena and Meyers.

But unless Crane makes a huge free agent move (like getting Tucker back) we're going to be underdogs in the division to the Mariners. They just have a better team right now.

And as digging tunnels said, the injuries are becoming a long term systematic issue for this franchise.

Well, at least we have the Rockets to look forward to.... oh wait, our starting PG just tore his ACL.

At this point I think we want to Red Sox to win so they might have something to play for against DET. I don't think we can catch anyone else realistically unless the Rangers can beat CLE.

They are still playing for wildcard homefield.

But yeah, the Astros got themselves into a terrible spot. Need to make up 2 games on either CLE or DET with 3 games to go.

I think we have all pretty much written this off. Need a sweep and hope one of those two teams drops 2/3.

Of course Good Framber decides to make an appearance now. Trade that 2 cent head this offseason to a team desperate for what can be a number 1 starter or someone you DFA when he gets his dreads in a knot.

Framber is a free agent after this year.

So I haven't really kept up with this team at all since i took the family to a game a couple months ago, but I get score notifications on my phone. I am pretty sure the Astros lead the division when we went to that game. Wtf happened to the team? Serious question. Can someone give me an overview? Slumps, injuries, bad management, bad luck? All of the above?

2026 and beyond analysis:

Glass half full:
- The AL is wide open and the Astros can become favorite next year if Crane is willing to spend
- The team sits at 85 wins with three games to go; without all the injuries the 2025 Astros would likely have more wins than the 2023 or 2024 Astros and finish as division winners with a bye
- Bad contracts like Jose Abreu (thru 2025), McCullers (2026) are rolling off and there aren't any terrible franchise-sinking contracts on the books.
- Paredes and Cam Smith will be two key pieces moving forward with Pena, Meyers. We could've lost Tucker for nothing.
- This is an organization with a track record of winning that wants to win badly.

Glass half empty:
- The Astros haven't proven to be adept at free agent signings so spending money won't guarantee anything.
- The minor league pipeline seems to be drying up. Are the Astros still scouting and developing players like 5 or 10 years ago?
- While the win total isn't bad this year, the run differential has gone from +219 to +129 to +91 to +13 which indicates that this is an average team now.
- Injuries have some luck but the Astros now have repeated issues with pitcher injuries; that doesn't seem easy to fix.
- The mystique is gone. The Astros ran the AL for almost a decade and were the one team no one wanted to face in the playoffs. Clutch moment after clutch moment. But losing game 6 and 7 of the ALCS at home in 2023 was followed by getting swept at home in 2024 to the Tigers which was followed by getting swept at home in 2025 by the Mariners and essentially knocked out of playoffs.

Just glad the Astros used the last of their dynasty juice to sweep the "best team ever assembled" in LA and make Dodgers fans sit through their worst home loss ever to get to fireworks. And they spoiled "Hololive night' the next game.

Stros unlocked one last #1 MLB power ranking then the dynasty peaced out.

The Yankees and Dodgers were never able to get their revenge in the playoffs.

Respect.

It was a great 10 year run. Lots of fun and many many dollars were spent. But I see our playoffs runs over for awhile

Need Dana to work some magic this off-season.
I miss Jeff Luhnow

Dropped 4 in a row to Seattle last week. They are in we are out. Tough division.
