So the EPL teams agreed to not release players for international duty if the games are held in nations appearing on the UK's "red list" (high COVID risk places). The US isn't on the red list, but several of the nations hosting our CONCACAF WCQ games are.

if it's just EPL, it won't affect most concacaf teams at all and it will affect USA the most. USMNT first choice players in EPL this year: Pulisic, Steffen, Sargent... rumors for McKennie? Mexico only has Jiminez I believe. Other concacaf players in EPL? I can't think of any.

We play at El Salvador 9/2, at Honduras 9/8, at Panama 10/10... looks like El Salvador and Honduras are not on that list at this time, but that would suck to not have those guys for USMNT.

Now, if Bundesliga, Seria-A, English championship, and others start following the EPL with this rule, it will continue to affect USMNT the most, but will start affecting Mex a little more with guys like Lozano and it will affect Canada more.

Jamaica could potentially have a couple players impacted for away games like we do. Do clubs have the power to limit the release of players to play in individual games? I always thought of a release as like a "release to leave" not as a like "legal release" to allow play in certain games but not others

In the first window, we have a home game vs Canada in the middle of trips to el salvador and panama. They will be released to play two games but not all three? More likely they will be like, "no, we dont like one of those games so we don't want to release you for any games"

USA has 5 EPL players, although at this time, CCV and Otasowie are unlikely in the 23 for WCQs this year.
Jamaica has 3 EPL players.
Mexico has 1
Canada has 0
Costa Rica 0
Honduras 0
El Salvador 0
Panama 0

Only game which would be impacted would be our match v. Panama.

So theoretically we would have Sargent, Pulisic and Steffen for first two games of window but not last game.


The questions will be:
1. Will other leagues follow suit?
2. Will this lead to WCQs being moved for this first rotation?

Interesting because the UK doing about as bad as many of the other countries on the list right now? There have been more cases in the EUFA countries in the last two weeks than all of CONMEBAL and CAF countries combined. The other countries may be safer with the players staying in EUFA then transmitting and possibly infecting others in the their home countries.

So a TUDNradio guy reported he had a source that says Pepi is choosing the US.
ESPN Mexico's Digital team is reporting he is choosing Mexico.

Both Pepi and Araujo would have to file for a one time switch, so even if they are called up by Mexico they cant play in the upcoming qualifiers (i think) and it hasn't been reported that they have filed (would be public record).
