As much fun as that would get seeing him going up agains Lainez again, not going to happen. He's getting almost no playing time and has not played with this group at all.

And if we're honest with ourselves, Pulisic hasn't exactly been great at creating chances for others from the wings, but he has been great at converting chances when he gets in the box… this seems win-win to me. I would like to see Greg play a consistent guy at the 9. He's constantly chasing the hot guy and by the time he catches them they aren't in form any more.

Find your best 11 that are healthy and play them.

I think the problem is that no one has taken that "best 9" position, whether it be with their club or USMNT. Who is that guy?

I am sure Gregg would love to have a plug in at the 9, he has tried to have it with Pepi. But you gotta score goals in that position.

Going to have to call in a LB with Dest's injury for cover.

Surprised at so few MF's but guess he can always plug Aaronson or Reyna in there. Was hoping to see Pomykal get some time with the team.

I guess both Aariola AND Morris is a surprise. Was thinking one or the other.

Leaving brooks out for this long is criminal. Feel sorry for the guy. As a manager, if you're going to say that how someone is playing with their club team is what matters most, then you really need to select the players who fit this bill. Or else everyone will just think you're a joke.

While I hate seeing Turner out that's arguably the position we've got the most depth, I prefer Turner but starting Steffen or Horvath is a minimal step down if at all.

Dest is a bit hit or miss but does have matches where he contributes a lot in the attack, but McKennie out is the one that concerns me the most.

Yeah, all three have been in poor form or not getting minutes for their club over the past couple months. I do think Sargent and Brooks have been improving lately but I guess not enough. I don't think any of them are huge difference makers or even starters (at the moment anyway) but I get worried when we don't see guys with upside called in for an extended period of time. Just being in camp and building cohesion with the rest of the group is important. Also, I think they might have a bigger upside than a couple of guys who've been called in the past two windows. But there also might be some personal differences and disagreements happening too. IDK.

It's not a huge deal and I'm not furious like some others, I just find squad selection interesting.

Sargent's problem is he has been playing on the wing for Norwich and we need a 9. Arguing whether Arriola or Sargent is your best 3 string winger seems a bit nonsensical to me. Arriola adds speed and some grit and leadership, I don't know what Sargent adds to the team at this point.

I actually would have preferred another midfielder over another offensive wing. Our depth in the midfield is concerning.

I have no idea. Could Arriola start for a dismal EPL team that is headed down to the Championship? Sure. If I were the Norwich manager I would be starting Sargent over Arriola because Sargent is a young player and I would be looking to build my team.

Sargent has not been good. I am happy he is playing a lot and getting an opportunity to progress while in a good league, but the question isn't who would start for Norwich, the question is who is the best of the two to come off the bench in the 85th minute at Costa Rica to help you seal a tie. Cause that will be what is asked of that position on the team. I think given Arriola's experience and his work rate it is understandable why he was chosen.

I wouldn't have had an issue if Sargent had been chosen over Arriola, but it is the last position on the roster, so I don't have an issue with the selection either.

This isn't an all-star team, you are looking for players that fit particular needs on your roster, not the 23 players getting the most minutes in the better leagues.

That too simplistic method of evaluating whether or not someone is more deserving of a call up.

The club which someone plays is only one part of the evaluation along with form, skillset, tactical fit, lockeroom fit, and leadership.
