We dominated possession, but the truth is we are not creating quality scoring chances. We need to do something about it. I feel great about our midfield and defense. But Pulisic needs to be way better. We need Gio back healthy. And can we just please get a half decent striker.
We have one. He sat on the bench until around the 70th minute.

We were playing man down the last 5 of full time plus all 5 of injury time due to Chris Richards injury. Canada should have been man-down for about 35 or 40 minutes. No idea how late trucking of Zardes wasn't a second yellow for that dude.

If you're Gregg and see we dominated in possession, shots, passing accuracy, corners, crosses, successful crosses- 1) you have to be pissed at efforts on the early goal conceded- bad long goal kick by Turner and no fight for the first or second ball off of it. 2) you have to be going to the drawing board to find ways to create better more dangerous opportunity against every concacaf opponent who all plan to drop 10 to defend and beat us on a counter.

every game this cycle has been the same with few exceptions. teams park the bus. US unable to break them down, looking more like a bunch of individuals than a cohesive team. lose on the counter or win on lucky bounces/ individual effort. repeat.

games like that you have to win on individual effort. Hard on the road.

Canada and Mexico seem to do just fine. It certainly isn't because they have strinkingly better tactical gameplans

"It's hard for me to remember a performance away from home this dominant without getting a result."

Dominant. Last I checked one decent shot on target in 90 minutes is anything but.

get the **** out

i think they have some killer instinct forwards and wingers. We have so much technical quality but lack stone cold killers sometimes

Maybe. I believe in Pepi, but it's hard to argue he's in form for Augsburg either. He's certainly the most likely candidate for the role at this point.

Well he's only been here 3 weeks so its hard to judge a new player in a new system. Point stands that your leading scorer in qualifying has sat on the bench for 160 of 180 minutes in 2 games

Today the winger with the most killer instinct was Arriola (comparative to time on field). Chew on that

We sorely missed Weah.

If I was the rest of CONCACAF, I'd start denying entry to other players. Just make **** up. Governments do it all the time

I want to see a front 3 with Weah, Pepi and Pulisic. Mix Reyna in the midfield and that lineup has some real offensive potential.

Thinking about it some more missing Weah almost forced Aaronson onto the field which then necessitates Jozy up top. Aaronson and Pulisic want to play the same way in the same spots. Plus Jozy dropping back all the time allowed the Canadian defense to put at least one player closer to CP. our player selection naturally gave us a numerical disadvantage. Starting Arriola and Pepi may have been the better option

You keep saying Jozy but I know you mean Gyasi

This might have been the kind of match a healthy and hungry Jozy would have excelled in. Too bad it was Gyazi.

ETA. Damn. Got beaten to the punch line.

I don't like Ggg subbing Dest off around 75-80th minute. If he's injured that's one thing, but if he's healthy play the whole game. If he's tiring, then he needs to be more selective with his runs. That's a sub we needed when Richards got injured.

Yeah that one made little sense to me

Dest had more attacking success than pretty much anyone else on the roster, I'd love to see him slotted in more of a wingback role.

I know many like Reyna on the wing, but to get the best eleven on the field I feel like it makes more sense to play him as a 10. That leaves Pulisic to play wide opposite Aaronson with McKennie/Adams lying deeper.

I think Gregg is going to HAVE to figure out how to effectively integrate Pulisic into the team/attack. Thats probably the most or 2nd most important thing to figure out.
Its possible an adjustment in overall tactics would solve that problem, but I feel like what we have seen Pulisic do the last handful of games something else may be required in addition (it may just be on Pulisic to pull his head out)

Im pretty sure when our forward drops back, at least one (if not both) of our wingers are supposed to make runs into the space he has created.

I just feel like our attack, in general, is very disjointed and it may be too complicated to expect a national team to play. This is something that has been brought up with Gregg since the very beginning, and there is a reason most national teams tend to play somewhat simply tactically.

Sometimes it's hard to know what a manager says vs. what he believes. I think aspects of the performance were good but if he thinks a performance that yielded 2 shots on goal can be classified in its whole as "dominant" then he's delusional.

I don't think he actually believes that but people in this world have deluded themselves into believing stranger things.

Yeah, I don't think he's going to say much of anything negative about our play publicly through the media.

I don't disagree but there's a big difference between not being negative publicly and blowing smoke up our ass.
