Holy crap. They rearranged crews and gave better ARs and the final to Penso.

Seitz used some muscle. Lots of muscle.

Penso was the best Referee at the WWC
Mayo has been on Penso's crew for the entire WWC.
Nesbitt was the best AR at the WWC.
I feel bad for the Suriname AR that was on Penso's crew this whole time but Nesbitt graded out better than most of the male ARs at the men's world cup in Qatar. She's a dime and a personal friend. I've known Mayo for years but I wouldn't call her a friend. I know Tori's husband better than her but she knows her **** and made the commitment to the game. She's dynamic and earned this, passing up Koroleva in the process.

Hearing Kari Seitz had less to do with this selection in that Collina made it himself. Seitz didn't have to use any politicking at all; Penso earned it on merit. Mayo was on the Penso crew. Collina loved Nesbitt in Qatar and had her on a short list before this WWC started.

Congrats to all of them.

I want to see England win, because it will make their men's team look even more inept.
Will also make the women heroes there given their championship drought on the men's side, which will help the sport.

So you want England to win, because ultimately it will make England demoralized?

I sincerely agree with this sentiment…

I'm not a regular on this thread, but I just wanted to check and see if anybody was talking about the refs. My cousin is Brooke Mayo. Really proud of her accomplishment. I haven't talked to her in years, but her dad keeps my mom updated on her progression. The amount of conditioning and work that's required just to be certified by FIFA is insane. She truly has poured herself into the game of soccer.

I pay some attention to the referee side of it. I'm happy for Tori, Brooke, and Katy. But the more I think about it, I'm absolutely disappointed for Rensch. She earned the opportunity to be on that Final crew with Tori and Brooke and was removed for no good reason. She would've been making history as well, as the first Black woman to ever officiate a World Cup Final. That may not resonate with many on this board but it does with me. I'm sure this wasn't thought out all the way through.

Sad end for the Matildas, the better side won though.

Title game has been really exciting so far. Spain up 1-0 early in the second half.

I'm not sure taking off you best FW at HT was a great move by England.

I just saw a world cup final, great soccer, and I realize I know nothing about the politics or wokeness of the winners. How refreshing!

Spain are deserving champions. One of the most technical and exciting teams I've seen in a while. Hopefully their federation gets their crap together and protects their players.

The better team won. Spain dominated on the ball technically.

Agreed, the right team won. Awesome effort by both though. And to echo an above post, nice to watch without judgement.

Interesting seeing replays after the game. She was off her line when the kick was taken. As far as I know, no VAR reviewed it.

They reviewed it. The decision was she was above the line.

"When the ball is kicked, the defending goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot touching, in line with, or behind, the goal line."

I didn't know it but "in line with" I guess means you can be above it.

Interesting. I need to adjust my wording since "off the line" apparently doesn't match now.

Someone on twitter explained this. It's why we see keeper's starting with a foot behind. They can get a jump and still be legal.

I always thought the rule was about being 'in line with' the goal line and any part of the GKs body being inline would meet the standard. Kind of like QBs can pass the ball as long as any part of their body in on or behind the LOS when the ball is released.

I'm surprised Mary Earps won the Golden Glove over Zecira Musovic

Is it solely because one's team reached the final and one's team got 3rd?

I remember watching a youth Barcelona girls team crush an American ECNL team on TV several years back. The ECNL team was typical American style, big strong girls, while Barcelona had short yet very technical players. They made a mockery of the ECNL team with their possession style.

I remember telling my daughter during that game, that it's a matter of time before Spain overtakes the US in female soccer, unless we figure out that soccer is not the same as basketball or American football. We can't just out athlete them anymore.
