I hope it's more Brewer than Stevenson. I feel like he's more energetic (not to mention more athletic) than Stevenson and the fact that he'll have his first real playoff action means he'll be juiced (more tenacity defensively).

Lakers in 6.

LA will have trouble with Dirk and the pick-n-roll, but the Mavs can't hang inside. When the Lakers bigs play well they can't be beat. If Bynum gets hurt, or Pau goes into the funk he had in the first couple games against NO, or Odom eats too much candy, then the Lakers can lose a game.

I don't feel like Dallas can hang, but there is a little weirdness in these teams not having meet in the playoffs since '88. Plus Chuck really likes Dallas, so we'll see.

I don't know who guards Dirk. I think Odom could do it, but since he comes off the bench I guess Artest will try as well.

Huge Mavs fan here. LA wins in 5. The Mavs may be able to jump-shoot their way to one victory, but they just don't have enough length to handle Bynum, Gasol, Odom - all the while trying to keep Kobe in check. Chandler will be in foul trouble in each game, and when Haywood is in he offers little offensively.

Stevenson/Brewer will try to slow down Kobe, but again, no offense. Butler will not be a factor, and Roddy B is not going to suddenly appear to shred the LA defense.

Their best chance to make it interesting is for Dirk to be very aggressive, and get to the foul line early and often - not settle for jump shots every time. Maybe he can get the LA bigs in foul trouble early.

I know that you are well known on this board as a Lakers fan, but are you actually from Los Angeles, or at least California? I would like to know before I summarily dismiss you as a front runner.

true, and the Lakers are a much better team than Memphis, that hurts too DC.

Memphis wasn't just a bad matchup for the Spurs. They were the better team. They were the 3rd best team in the league basically the last 25 games of the year and the Spurs weren't.

Dallas has about as much change against LA as the Spurs had against Memphis.

In my experience watching NBA basketball, the team with better interior scoring and better defense almost always wins in the playoffs. LA has both.

For all the hype generated by guys like Kobe, Lebron, Griffin, etc., titles are still won/lost in the trenches. Guys like Gasol and Bynum make all the difference in the world.

Lakers in 6. Kobe and Bynum continue to fight nagging injuries.

This could get ugly fast, just can't see the Mavs winning this series.

This series should go 6 or 7 games. I think the Lakers probably win, but will let my hopes get the better of me. Mavs in seven.

Kidd, Terry, and Dirk all had great series against Blazers. Need the same.

Haywood and Chandler have to stay out of foul trouble. For the most part, they've played pretty smart basketball lately.
