the Rockets have roughly $14 million in cap room. (Lin’s and Asik’s three-year, $25.1 million contracts count $8.37 million apiece toward the Rockets’ cap each season.)

That's a quote from Feigen. So with Martin's contract, which is almost $13 million, that's about $27 million in cap space. Dwight is due $19.2 million this year, so we have almost $8 mil after that.

Orlando's contracts:

Hedo Turkoglu - $11.4 mil
Glen Davis - $6.4 mil
Jason Richardson - $5.8 mil
Chris Duhon - $3.68 mil
Quentin Richardson - $2.67 mil

Rocket's contracts:

Shaun Livingston - $3.5 mil
Patrick Patterson - $2.1 mil
Toney Douglas - $2.07 mil
Marcus Morris - $1.96 mil
Gary Forbes - $1.5 mil
Chandler Parsons - $0.888 mil

So assuming those numbers and players are correct, especially Livingston, Houston still has a lot of flexibility to take back contracts. Hedo is out, but Houston can likely take at least 2 others back without involving a 3rd team.

I pray we can include Marcus Morris in a deal. That was a waste of a draft pick.

well, so much for Houston:

quote:
Howard's camp has consistently warned Houston not to trade for him, that he'd march right into Dallas' cap space next summer.

Nobody is expecting him tO sign, but he'd have to be part of a sign-and-trade to get a max deal so they'd get something for him.

Why is this so hard for you to comprehend, simplemind?

Do realize simple gay that Howard can get $30 million more with Houston than ANY other team if he's traded here.

Yeah, duh, Howard said the same thing about LA weeks ago.

Why should anyone believe anything Dwight says at this point? If there's one thing that is incredibly apparent, it's that Dwight is selfish. He isn't going to leave all that money on the table. He'll either get moved via sign-and-trade, or he'll stay on whatever team Orlando trades him to. Also, why would Dwight go to Dallas over Atlanta?

The other half of that tweet Simplebay quoted is that Orlando wants something like what Denver got for Carmelo. Well, that isn't going to happen.

According to this Rocket's blog, Lamb, White, and Jones have signed their rookie contracts and thus cannot be traded for at least 30 days. So I wouldn't expect any more moves for at least that amount of time.

quote:
Thus far, Houston’s offseason has been one of personnel fluidity—rumors, hopes, disappointment, and excitement, all wrapped in about a two month span. However, this past week a lot of the day dreams changed when Jeremy Lamb, Royce White, and Terrence Jones signed their first NBA contracts. As far as I know, players signed to rookie deals aren’t allowed to be traded for 30 days upon putting ink to paper on their first contracts, meaning those three are now off the table in any Dwight Howard/Superstar X trade possibility for the time being, giving Houston’s 2012-13 roster a clearer outline. (Once again, for the time being.) Taking this into account then including the team’s two major free agent acquisitions—Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik—a temporarily suitable roster can now be made.

Jeremy Lin, Kevin Martin, Chandler Parsons, Patrick Patterson, and Omer Asik are the five best players at their position, and unless there’s another move to be made before Halloween, they will likely comprise Houston’s starting lineup on opening day. Being that there are roughly 76 other players currently listed on Houston’s roster, identifying a bench unit is where things get a bit more hazy. Donatas Motiejunas, Marcus Morris, Lamb, White, and Jones all appear to be shoe-ins for the final team, though it’s too early to say who will be playing where, and with whom else on the court.
