It ranks as the lowest-rated conference opener in the rated markets since 2007, when Cavaliers/Pistons drew a 3.5 and Jazz/Spurs drew a 3.8.

The ratings are impacted by several factors. Not only was the Spurs’ 105-83 victory the biggest blowout in a conference finals opener since 1998, San Antonio (36th) and Memphis (49th) rank among the smallest markets in the NBA.

TNT & ESPN have some blame for this. Both the Spurs & Grizz were largely not talked about for the regular season. Even during the playoffs, the side stories were always featuring the other teams: Lakers, Clippers, OKC, and GSW.

I understand the pursuit of the in the moment ratings, but with the possible exception of Barkley and Jet, most of the national commentators didn't talk about them all year, nor watch a game. If they had done some marketing of these teams, they would be better off now (IMO)

I think MEMP wins by double digits tonight & makes a very intriguing game 3. You could tell that MEMP bigs were beginning to wear down SA bigs towards the end of game 1. MEMP is currently healthier than SA as well. We shall see.

I think just the opposite. I think Grizz is making a point to stay home on the perimeter and help less.

S.A. is going to attack the paint off the dribble and eat Memphis alive with the tear drops, short jumpers and last second dishes to their bigs. Diaw and Splitter are going to have a high FG%. Duncan probably as well.
