It will be interesting to see how Simmons dances around this blowout. He's been leading the charge on ESPN's "we're all going to pick the Grizzlies while insisting that they are the underdogs and no one thinks they have a chance to win the series" campaign.

Simmons is a dirty Bostonian who knows nothing about sports. He was a columnist for Boston sports for like 20 years before coming to espn. He's got a wide range of knowledge.......

Dominating performance!

Memphis doesn't have the shooters to hang with the Spurs. Other than Pondexter, none of their guards forced our defenders to really respect them, so we packed the paint and were able to shut down Z-Bo and not let Gasol go crazy. Also, we proved that we can play physically down low and not be completely pushed around. Our rebounding was very good and our role players made them pay for sagging into the paint by knocking down open 3s. Matt Bonner played fantastic!

My game 1 smack talk before getting ready for game 2.

Allen will shut Parker down. Tony was 9-14, 20 pts, 9 assists.

Memphis will dominate the Spurs post players. Gasol 15 & 7 (good), Randolph 2 & 7 (bad).

Spurs bigs did have trouble but Splitter only took 1 shot and Tim does as he does now, takes that long jumper. Bonner with a very non-Bonner game.

I think we can improve on things next game. We ended up losing the rebounding numbers 35-33 and free throws 20-14. Also only had 1 less turnover.

The real question is, can Memphis still sweep this series? /simple

Simmons looked unhappy. Griping about what the Griz should have done in the Gay trade.

Haha. Simmons said they should have held on to Jose Calderon before they traded him to Detroit. Still picks the Grizz to win in 6.

I usually like Simmons but he really doesn't like the Spurs.

It's nice to be able to hide guys like Neal and Bonner on D and still get their offense. Complete opposite of last series.

On his podcast the other day he talked about how great the Spurs' run have been over the past 10+ years, how they would have won even more titles if not for freak occurrences like Fisher's BS shot, how everyone talks about them as "boring" when in fact they've been one of the most exciting offenses to watch the past couple of years, how Duncan is the greatest player of his generation and he'd be in his starting five of players from 1980-present. Thought the series was a toss-up, but his gut was telling him to pick Memphis.

Clearly hates San Antonio.

Also in the Book of Basketball he has an extensive section on Duncan throwing nothing but compliments at him. I don't think he's a Spurs hater. He just doesn't like going back on his pick (granted it is just game 1).

Simmons likes the Spurs. Quite a bit. But he clearly thinks Memphis will win this series. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't listen to his podcasts but on tv every year he shorts the Spurs. Last year it was the Clippers that would destroy the old Spurs, this year it was the Warriors and now it's the Grizzlies.

Now Magic Johnson, on the other hand, that idiot hates the spurs

Understatement, considering Simmons and others have anointed Duncan the greatest PF of all time. And honestly, it isn't even close. Would anyone really rather have Karl Malone, Dirk, McHale, Pettit or Barkley over Duncan? Didn't think so.

Magic Johnson is terrible.

He said "perfect matchup for the Grzzlies" before the game. Then at halftime he says "perfect matchup for the Spurs".

This.

I flip over to NBA TV after games on ABC/ESPN, so I didn't hear him after the game but his pregame to half time flip flop was pretty bad.

Shots weren't falling for the Spurs in the last series. They were due a game where they made lots of shots like they did today.

Does Memphis's offense have any upside? Or is this as good as it gets?

shots falling is different than wide arse open 3's

there wasn't one contested 3 b/c the spurs passed the ball brilliantly

This is what basketball at its top level looks like

imagine what Pop could do if he had Lebron

This Grantland article is relevant to that type of event, good players with good coaches and organizations become better or great players. Good players on crap teams just stay good or regress.

Randolph had 2 points. Yes, their offense has more. Its not a thing of beauty but they've played much better offensively than they did today.

The Spurs organization has IMO always done a fantastic job of developing their role players who made all the difference in the world in this game today. Bayless and Pondexter are about the only guys off the Grizz bench that can go off offensively and they are both streaky. You don't expect much offense out of Allen, Prince, Arthur, Dooling. So if one of the Grizz big 3 is held like Randolph was today and you don't get big contributions from someone else like Prince or Allen, you get a real offensive mess. Defensively, I have no explanation for the half ass **** the Grizz threw out there today other than the Spurs just kicked their ass on the pick and roll and the Grizz just time and time again didn't cover the 3 point line and allowed too much penetration.

I think Game 2 will tell the tale if this will end up being a short series or not. Hollins needs to get quite a few things figured out before Tuesday on both sides of the ball.

I agree that they can be better offensively. They don't regularly score over 100 but they can do better than today.

They will find a way to get Randolph involved, spurs hit their 3s today. That won't always happen. Spurs in 7.

If the Spurs continue to get wide open looks like they did today (I don't expect it), then they'll continue to shoot almost 50% from 3. I just don't see Memphis having enough fire power to win 4 against the Spurs, assuming they keep the Grizz off the offensive glass like they did today.

Randolph will bounce back game 2. Remember, he is a spurs assassin.

Also, MEMP has lost game 1 of each of their series so far. They were down 0-2 vs the Clips in R1. I still think this series goes 7.
