That game makes me want to throw up. That was sickening.
Up 4, 50 seconds left, with ball....What the **** was Monta thinking shooting a 20 foot jump shot with 17 seconds left on the shot clock? Hold the ball and throw up a prayer with 1-2 seconds left and that game is basically over. That was inexcusable. That was the Monta a lot of us were afraid we might be seeing when we made the signing. Surprisingly, he hasn't had any other head scratching moments that I can think of this year, so I guess we can give him a pass.
Not that Monta is the only one who has blame on that one. Up 17 with 4 minutes left, there is plenty of blame to go around, including Dirk. He couldn't manage to score on JJ Reddick and went like 0-5 in the last 5 minutes and fowled Crawford on a 3.
I love Dirk and think he is great, but I didn't like how our offense basically just stopped during the last 4 minutes and we just gave it to Dirk every time down the floor. We were scoring at a season high pace running our offense, scoring at will. The Pick and rolls with Wright and our ball movement made us unstoppable. Why not stick with what's been working all game instead of just giving the ball to Dirk and watching what he does? It's not just the Mavs who do this, almost all teams do this in the final minutes and I just don't understand why. Is it just bc you need to have "a go to guy" so you feel like you can't just run your offense at the end of games? We definitely would have scored more than 6 points in the final 5 minutes if we had kept running what we had been running the entire game.
