Donald Sterling is a racist. That's pretty clear. This last quote is more weird than racist though. That being said, everyone knows what he's about. Although his ***** appears to be very progressive.

Other than rooting for the other team, this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You don't punish the fans or players for the owner's mistakes.

Also, I know he's done racist stuff in the past and it's likely him but we don't know it's actually him since it's an audio recording.

Sterling has been punished multiple times by the DOJ for racism in his real estate dealings and is currently under investigation again for it. He's racist. It's not like this is some new revelation. People's reactions to this are overblown.

At the end of the day, Sterling is going to sell the team. With that, the NBA gets rid of a guy they don't want as an owner. Sterling wins too because his team is probably at peak value. Their popularity is at an all time high in LA and nationally.

I thought it was a little odd that Magin Johnson was leading the charge against Sterling given his interest in the Lakers. However, they are likely to be the biggest loser at the end. A good owner for the Clippers will cement their dominance over the Lakers for years to come.

And that isn't just a bragging rights thing. It is a lot of dollars in the LA market for premium courtside seats, etc. The Lakers season ticket holders were already complaining about the product they were paying so much to see. That price premium is gonna be gone and transferred over to Clippers seating. Sterling will now be able to sell that to a new ownership group.
